I'll bet placing them on upside down masking tape and a rattle can will make quick work of making them orange. Orange resins exist, but the maker prolly didn't have any. It is a good idea. The layering will diminish with a coat of paint anyways.

We have the same sayings, the cones are like dandelions when the wind blows they grow everywhere and the wind blows a lot in Oklahoma.

Okay, here's another update from everyone's favorite cone head :D

We shall start with a shot of the cones in my favorite paint booth

    20200712_183038.jpg

That is just one coat. I kind like the well used look they ended up with. If I had done a second coat, they would probably look like brand new.

    20200712_184233.jpg

And here are some shots of them on the road.

Since I was gone a good bit of the weekend so was happy just to get the cones painted and on the layout but still managed a little more.

I had been feeling the lawn for the church just looked off. After pondering if for a while, I decided some hedges might help. What do you guys think? Too much?

    20200712_122939.jpg

I also got the exterior panels painted for a new building

    20200712_190755.jpg

The windows and trim are going to be a dark blue like this.

    20200712_191227.jpg

    Still thinking about it...…..

The cones look fantastic!!! In the photo you posted of the cones next to a bottle cap makes them look very tiny. More so than when you put them on your road.

The hedges look just right, great job.

Next, I finished up my Santa Fe crane. Not exactly prototypical but looks cool.

    20200712_191855.jpg

Another project that has been calling itself out is the black wheel hubs on many of my trucks. I have now embarked on correcting that. (work in progress)

And last for the weekend, while sorting items at the Chattanooga house, I came across two treasures from my childhood. The one that applies here is a souvenir copy of the Vulcan statue in Birmingham Alabama. I'm thinking it may find a place here on the layout.

For those who are curious, the other treasure was a rubber chicken :D:p:ROFLMAO:

That's the latest. Hope you all enjoyed the updates.

Just a suggestion, the statue would look better in a small park with a sidewalk around it.

Nice cones! The crane came out well too.
The light coat of orange really makes them look well abused.

You are right Joe. Hadn't really put any thought into it, just set it there and said cool. :) Now we will have to see what I can come up with.

Thank you Joe and Hemi! It is amazing how small they are but how good they actually fit when placed in the scene. The maker of them did a fantastic job. As for the paint. I had in my mind to go with a like new look but once I saw how they looked after the first coat of paint, I somehow knew that was the way to leave them.

    BNSFF,

I too like the cones and hedges but I especially noticed how well you have done in getting a clean cut between the wheel rim and the black tire. Very well done! My question for you is, are you using the toothpick laying on the mat to paint the wheels? Looks great.

Thanks Carl! Yes, I am actually doing the wheels with a toothpick. Some turn out great on the first try. Other times after the aluminum/silver paint dries, I have to use a toothpick with black to do some touch up.

Cool flatbed kit from Jeff at the MilwaukeeTrainShop (see his thread https://www.trainboard.com/highball...printed-20-container-chassis-and-more.132096/ )

    Should be a nice build.

Now if you will permit me, a brief ramble.

Our office went to a 100% mask policy this week. The boss suggested that our team maximize working from home and only come in if something can't be done remotely. I'm good with the mask thing and will try this work from home thing again. Today did start out pretty cool. Made some coffee and logged on while sitting at the breakfast table where I had a view of the bird feeders in the back yard. Saw at least 10 different species of birds in just a few minutes including my favorites, the blue jay and cardinal. (bad pics, sorry) What was a surprise was at one point there were 4 blue jays around the feeders. They flew just as I got a pic. I have never seen more than 2 at a time before and I have to admit, it was cool. Of course the chipmunks were out in force as well but that's pretty normal. Maybe I will find the bright side of not going to the office for a bit. :)

I was wondering why the trailer was printed sideways, when I saw it in another thread. Now it makes sense.

Well folks, it's another Monday. Wasn't a very productive weekend on the layout Knee was acting up so that didn't help.

One major push for the weekend was to get that mythical scenic divide done that I keep mentioning. Well, alas I did not finish it. However, I did atleast make progress. Here we see it with the backdrops applied and the spray adhesive drying.

    20200719_144731.jpg

Guess that counts as progress anyway. That was the biggest item from the weekend but wait....there's more!
