My problem is I can't draw a straight line if my life depended on it.

Thanks anyways plus kinda hard to do on a phone as I don't have a computer

So here is the addition I've been working on.

    First the plan.
And then the foamboard built up, before adding the top.

One of the goals is use the bridge that I have.

I now have the top glued on and am surprised how sturdy it is with practically no torsional distortion, even when tilted onto one corner. Next steps will be to design and implement the connection to the main layout, allowing it to be removed quickly and reattached accurately.

Doorgunner, the bridge is very cool, it's surprising how light and sturdy they can be. I have a scratch built coal trestle that can hold a lot of weight with no problems.

Got the mounting setup completed tonight. In short, blocks were added to the underside of the extension with tee-nuts and a shelf to hold one end and keep the extension at the place. Eye bolts are used to hold the extension in place.

Here is a picture of the blocks in place on the shelf prior to being glued to the extension itself.

Epoxy and small brads were used to prevent loss or turning since, after gluing to extension, they would be inaccessible.

Cutouts in the bottom of the extension were made allow for top of tee-nuts.

Elmer's Woodworking Glue was used to fasten to bottom of extension.

Here you can see the blocks after gluing in place and the ends of the tee-nuts are visible.

And here is a view of the extension fastened to the shelf with ring bolts through shelf and screwed into the blocks.

This shows the top. It is depressed so that two levels of cork roadbed can be used to aid in contouring surface and allowing undulations of scenery.

So, once again I'm here, and my focus (if any) has changed and I've started actually tackling scenery prep. I decided the yard area on the former TimeSaver portion would be my focus. Using foam board to minimize CelluClay usage, I first laid some down on the newly painted Homasote (some blue paint I had from a bathroom remodeling). Not much progress, but better than nothing!

Then built up areas with CelluClay.

Then added some temporary ballast to see how works out. I'm liking is so far.

And a shot with photoedited background added.

Slow progress, but have painted the CelluClay on part of the layout with artist's acrylics. Used Yellow Oxide, Burnt Sienna, Titanium White and water. Deliberately didn't mix the paints completely to get some variation in hues, since nature ain't a perfectionist. Still will required overcoating, probably dry brush of both extremely light gray and a darker gray to coordinate with ballast. Then add "dirt" areas and grass.

Trying out some techniques and tried drybrushing an off-white artist's acrylics on top of ties. Here is the result including closeup, showing both brushed and unbrushed with loose ballast to see how it looks. I am encouraged.

    Looks good J.

Might want to give a very light semi dark wash to tone the brightness down.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

That was a test, I'm going to add more brown to the mix so it isn't so white. A semi dark wash to tone down the tie brightness might be good as a first step anyway. Thanks.

That just looks freaking great, John. That dusty look on the ties is what's often missing. I see in the background that you are well along with planning structure placement, too.

    Anytime John anytime.

My layout rebuild is still about a month or two out.

Found a couple of the first modules were built wrong so ripped them out and disassembled them.

    Back to square one again.

    Following along with interest J.

Thanks RailMix! In regards to the placement, when the CelluClay was still wet, I placed that tower there, and pressed down so when the area is finished, the building will look like it is actually imbedded in the soil. I hate floating structures! lol

Vince, glad you at least getting started with a rebuild. Better to find module problems now, than when it hurts too much to fix.

Yes found the problem just before laying any roadbed or track.

It was a close one though.

As an aside, been using this nifty gadget. Many years ago, I got a new PC and the store gave me a small care kit which included a keyboard vacuum cleaner. Turns out it is great to pick up loose ballast. As you know, I've shown some pics with ballast applied loose for ascertaining my new ventures. This is perfect for picking it back up after experimenting.

Ah yes! I had one of those for a while. But, Louise desided she needed it more for her makeup when she moved on.
