I am giving up on the Graham Farish which has developed a weird rocking gait now. Maybe it’s something I damaged after all my putzing, but I’m looking to a Bachman 2-6-0 to replace it (good pricing now.) Problem is that the Bachman appears to have a different coupler. I boned up on coupler types and *am overwhelmed.* Attached is a photo of the European stock car and coupler detached. It push fits into the (barely visible) socket, the open rectangle. Is this is standard socket and can I fit a matching coupler (Accumate? MicroTrain?). There’s no screw attachment. Help, please!

Perhaps a better photo. The T-shaped piece has the coupler pocket at one end. It just "floats" (no attachment) between the truck base and the body. The coupler itself clicks into the pocket. On removal, this does not look like a NMRA pocket, but I don't have one to compare.

Usually when a coupler snags something it usually the coupler or the coupler pin to low. I take it that you are using rapido type. Then you may want to trim the pin below the coupler and try it.

On the Graham Farrish loco you may want to check the side rods position. If they are in different positions on each side that may be the issue.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. No snagging. I need to know how to couple the Bachmann loco with a knuckle coupler to my European stock with Rapidos. The photos show the (what seems to be weird) European couplers. I know I can get knuckle couplers but not sure if they will fit into the Euro sockets, as they look different that the removed Rapido coupler shown in the photo. Is there an off-the-shelf rolling stock with a Rapido and a knuckle I can buy?

GH loco, I didn't dismantle, so unsure how side rods could've moved. Iae, I've given up on it. Thanks.

Take a look at Red Caboose Unimates. They will fit usually in the same pocket that a Rapido did. You could make a transition car with a unimate at one end. Unimates will couple to the new Bachmann coupler.

It may have a split axle design and the wheel may have slipped. Or it may be split axle shafts that is letting the wheels slip out of sync. Not sure how long that Bachmann has owned Graham Farrish but old Bachmann locos used to have that issue with splitting axle shafts and gears.

Certain manufacturers liked to include both options with the product, ie- they were interchangeable. Regardless it would be quite easy to make your own conversion car, just get any old wagon with truck-mounted Crapidos and replace one of the trucks with a knuckle-equipped one. Alternatively, cut off the extension bar the Crapido is on and body-mount a MicroTrains 1015-1 knuckle (or whatever else suits).
