Just saw this and it looks ugly. Finding the cause of the fire and the derailment could be interesting. https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/a...ce=wnd&utm_medium=wnd&utm_campaign=syndicated
Oh, that's a terrible sight. This is probably on the former SP that handles trains to Phoenix, which isn't on the main line. This was once a through line, leaving the main at Picacho, AZ, running north to pass through Phoenix and then continuing west to rejoin the main east of Yuma. The western portion has been out of service for quite a few years now, leaving the UP with the Picacho connection only. Looks like the BNSF will gain some additional tonnage for a while.
Apparently, there is a light rail line right next to it and they were running trains thru it for a bit?! I've seen a few videos on Twitter, that's gotta' be freaky for the passengers!!
It appears that there was a minor derailment a while back, followed by a repair and inspection. Then this mess. It sounds like the derailment caused the fire.
My wife and I have been staying in Tempe for over a week near that line about a mile south of the wreck. Surprised we didn’t hear anything.
Just in the news the UP plans to have the Bridge Functional this week. Impressive recovery. https://www.rtands.com/rail-news/ar...ent-could-be-up-and-running-by-friday-aug-15/
It seems like the centerbeam flatcar was burning. At least it wasn't an oil spill or a chemical fire from a ruptured tank car. (at least that's what I saw on social media)
