This week's first shot is of the principal city of Dorrance on the O scale layout of the Detroit model Railroad Club. It was taken during one of their annual open houses. I think the club itself was founded in the 40s, but the layout was begun in 1973 after the club purchased a former theatre in downtown Holley, MI.
Note the gray diecast F unit at center. After joking with one of the members "I didn't know TSBy had any F units", he chuckled and filled me in on the history of of these F's. There are four of them. They are old All Nation engines that were purchased by the club at an early time in its history and were in the process of receiving a well earned complete rework and repaint when this photo was taken.

The second shot was taken of an interesting scene in a popular area of the layout known as "the valley".

Nice, John. While the rest of the layout is a bustling line with SP, UP and ATSF, mostly diesel with a certain amount of big steam and a lot of passenger trains, the narrow gauge has retained a simple backwoods flavor. Well done.

    Isn't she a brute?

So I found this to get an idea about how the doghouse, walkway, and hand rails were attached...........

I have a B'mann J class cut down to accept one of Jason (Superturbine) castings. This should be fun, but a lengthy job. Now, if I can find the correct decals. Wish me well.

    Stay safe, stay well,
    Carl

Is this perchance a USRA heavy Mikado or a copy thereof? Oops. Never mind. I just realized it's a Mountain type.

A GS1 is a 4-8-4 “Northern” type. I believe Baldwin built them to an SP design. The 975 pictured is a 2-10-2 with the same tender.

From 1988, the engine terminal on my N Scale road, dismantled several years ago. If I can ever find the time, I'll have a new railroad in the works.

I had mentioned that I started my GS-1 project. Here is an image I made some time ago. It is the 1st boiler/chassis fit test and the doghouse is just sitting on top of the tender shell. The "brakeman's shanty" will have to be mounted down and contoured to fit the curvature of the tank and walkways, handrails, and ladders added. I think the chassis and boiler both need to be milled a tad more for a better lower fit of the boiler shell. What you say?

Thanks for looking and stay well,

    Video

This may be the last video of the BL2 for a time. I fear it may suffer from the infamous Proto cracked gears illness. It may be in the shop for awhile.
