Hi anybody i installed 8 pin DH166PS decoder in DC chuggington - brewster locomotive , I want install sound kindly advise me can i do it, if yes what i need to make sound
The decoder you have is a function-only decoder, meaning it does not have sound effects. You will need to replace it with a decoder that is designed for sound. Digitrax, Tsunami, and ESU all make sound decoders. If you want to stay with the Digitrax brand, their website shows the different types of sound decoders they sell. Some require soldering, but it looks like the SDXN and SDN 136PS both have 8 pin plugs. Those are designed for N scale, but as long as the motor in your HO locomotive is under 1 amp, it should be fine. Since Brewster is a fictional locomotive, I don't know what prime mover it would have. Read the manual for the decoder, you may need a programmer to upload the sound file; I don't know if the decoders are equipped with one. Some decoders have multiple prime movers which are user-selectable, but these decoders may be blank. I don't really use Digitrax products, so I don't know the ins and outs.
I use Soundtraxx Tsunami HO decoders, and use iPhone speakers. The iPhone speakers have a much richer sound than the Soundtraxx speakers, and the iPhone speakers are 8 ohm. I do not know the speaker wattage, though.
