    It hard to believe it's been 19 years since that happened. It will always be a haunting memory for me.

    I remember it like it was yesterday. I remember where I was...what I was doing...and going home and watching it on TV. I remember holding onto my wife and crying and not being able to stop. I felt numb and helpless watching it unfold. I remember the hours...days...weeks...months...years after.

    No...I will NEVER Forget !!!! :cry::mad::censored::censored:

    That was a day that changed my life forever. I was sitting at home in bed (west coast so it was really early morning for me) and heard something on the alarm radio that got my attention. I turned on the TV just as the first tower fell. I was in shock, I watched the second tower fall a few minutes later. I was numb and terrified. The next day I gave blood... still felt empty inside. Some of you may know this about me for those who don't I am the kind of person that will run into a fire to help someone. Had I been anywhere near there that day I would have been offering any help that was in my power to do. Now about a week after the attacks I decided I need to do something still. So I walked into my local Naval recruit station and signed up. I left for bootcamp on December 17th. I served my country as a sailor for 5 years, and today I still work for the military as a civilian in an Army hospital.

    Yes, it was like that for me when the Challenger blew up in the 1980's - I was at the dentist and they had it on a TV. I was only 4 when Kennedy was shot, and I can still remember watching the coffin on a horse drawn carriage on the black and white TV.

    On 9/11 I was working in IT at a bank. We heard about the first plane hitting one of the towers and pulled out a TV to watch the news. With our mouths gaping open, we watched one of the towers burning on fire and while watching, the second plane hit. That was shocking enough and then the towers crashed down. Most of us will never forget and there was more, what with the Pentagon being hit and a 4th plane crashing in a Pennsylvania field after brave passengers caught wind of the happenings and realized their plane was hijacked to and heading for a major target, some believe the White House. "Lets Roll" was the last words IIRC before they stormed the cockpit.

    I clearly remember the day, this is NOT a joke. I was watching "Dexter's Laboratory". My roommate came out of his room. "Hey, did you hear what happened ???"
    "Ummm... yes...Dede got into the lab again !!!"
    He switched the TV channel. I COULD NOT believe what I was seeing. At the time, it was believed a small private plane hit the first tower. Then the 2nd plane hit...things started to unfold. Then heard about the other hijacked planes.
    I had returned from the Persian Gulf 1 1/2 yrs earlier. I was an aircraft mechanic on USS Kitty Hawk. Although it was a different enemy, I questioned myself. "What DIDN'T I do ??? What did I miss ??? How could this possibly happen ??? Where the Hell did this come from ???"
    Some may argue, I don't care, but 911 was worse than Pearl Harbor in so many ways, yet it seems forgotten.
    I will stop now. Tears building.

    Horrible day. And so readily pushed aside. Never forget. Was working a second job for a farmer. He called us in just in time to see the second plane hit and the towers collapse. We went to a field to pull corn out of the beans, and had the radio blaring so we could keep up with the news. Long day. Longer for them in NYC.

    The memories of that day are ingrained in my mind forever. We were living in CA but both born in NY State. Phone call got us out of bed, from my wife's brother still living in NY at the time. Like JimFitch, I will never forget the Challenger nor JFK's assassination. It's hard to believe that people have forgotten this awful event.

    I was on duty and in the field when everyone was recalled and then dispatched to the Pentagon. My team that I had trained performed flawlessly and I am still proud of those guys. It was the largest crime scene I have ever been on.

    9/11/2001 is a day I won't forget. I was working for a company that was near the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport. After we got the news the towers had been hit and then Shanksville, I remember how quite it got. They had grounded all the airplanes and the constant sound of airplanes over head was now suddenly gone, the silence was very eerie.

    The wife and I paid a visit to the Shanksville memorial site after it was opened to the public. The first thing I noticed was how quite it was at the site, it was a stark reminder of 9/11.

    9/11 for this Kiwi will always be remembered, I had travelled to Canada and spent nearly a month there before returning back to NZ. I landed in Auckland in time to see on the concourse TV the first Jet fly into one of the Twin Towers, I was left in a state of shock as I had just flown into and out of NY and had seen the Twin Towers from the air the day before that terrible day. It made me think how close I had gotten to potential disaster, if my flight had been delayed etc. So even though I'm not an American it still angers me to this day.

    I've twice lost posts about this just as i was to post. I'll take this as a sign to give up. It seems when a post comes in, my browser window jumps to it, and my message is lost somewhere. A third try: there was a sense of profound nay utter sense of loss, sadness and failure on the national security teams I was working for. Let me just post that and perhaps revisit it later.
