    Wow... great buy.
That is the first run of built-up SP boxcars. They have the original Intermountain truck mounted couplers which really never worked well... constant uncoupling... they used to sell for about $12 per car. The kits were about $9 per car.

It finally arrived. I got the best looking of all the ONP trains in my collection now. Here is the 2019 Operation North Pole train from Kato.

There will not be a 2020 train for next year and I hope Kato doesn’t decide to stop producing these, but if they do I have a pretty nice collection. I own the full set from 2015 to now.

This is probably my favorite ONP scheme they have done. The dark red looks classy, but still feels 'Christmasy.' It's too bad that the coronavirus shut everything down. I wonder what the 2020 train would have looked like. Does this one have the little wreath on the cab car?

Honestly I have not even removed the train from the box at all. It is supposed to have the wreath but I dont know. I spent my free time after work last night working on my ZQ8 S10. It ran fine last week and this weekend nothing. I dont drive it much but I wanted to stretch her legs this weekend and couldn't. I have fuel pressure, I have spark, air is all over the place but I think the dizzy broke and it is too far out of time to run. I got a new dizzy last night but it was getting too late to finish the job. That will be tonight. Then back to trains... I hope.

I will eventually need over 250 line poles for my layout. These Atlas poles have been around forever and one would think they would be cheap but they mostly command list price + high shipping on line. Over the past few years I have enjoyed finding bargains at shows where the boxes were really beat up but the poles inside were still new. With no shows I have been scouring that famous auction site and finally found something worth bidding on. Got this box with 3 sets in 1 box plus a pack of Bachmann poles for about the list price of 1 Atlas set with reasonable shipping. THIS is what I do to these to make them ready for the layout.

I use .060 thick PC board material to make tie plates to use for several purposes in non-scenery areas of my layout. In my area there used to be a number of electronics surplus shops I could go to and buy scraps of PC board material but those are all gone now as there really isn't any electronics manufacturing left here now. So again I had to turn to that famous auction site and found a nice set of material I could use. HERE is one example of how I use this material.

Just arrived in the mail! From intermountain railroad. An upgrade kit for my Missouri Pacific N scale SD40-2. Now all four of my SD40-2’s have sound decoders.

What about places like Shapeways? Don't know if they have any or what prices they are commanding but worthwhile to check for another source.

Outside of shapeways I came across my mini factory.com . I was looking for a good Waffle House for my layout. His prices are very good too!

The only ones I have seen there were not very good looking, and were 6 for $16.00. Recently Atlas announced a pole set with wires, price not mentioned yet. Years ago N Scale of Nevada did spin cast metal sets of cross arms with insulators. I really liked those because you could customize your own poles using rod material as the pole. These have not been available for many years now. :(

This Bachmann 4-8-4 Northern just arrived - it's a white box version so has the usual issues. Noisy as anything, good thing I only bought it to pull apart as it was quite cheap but it does run and no duck waddling :) The tender is missing some steps so I'll get a new tender shell.

I recently received some Athearn products. Autoracks and wood trussrod cabooses. I am pleased with the autoracks... nicely done IMHO.
OTOH... the cabooses were a concern. Denver & Rio Grande Western and most of its predecessor roads had many cabooses... mostly wood side truss rod versions built in the early 1900's. Most were later rebuilt with steel sides and different underframe... most were renumbered as well. The Athearn cabooses were numbered 01134, 01147 & 01159. I could find no reference photos for these numbers. Perhaps they existed... or not. Photos I did find which were similar are for narrow gauge cabooses. The Athearn model is a standard gauge version. I have been much less 'picky' about prototypical accuracy... so I don't complain too much about that. What really stirred me up on this purchase was that these models did not have end ladders or a brakewheel on either end. The attached Athearn reference photo is inconclusive because the end views do not show the ladder or the brakewheel... but the side view seems to indicate at least a ladder up to the roof. I can always add these details from Gold Medal Models... but it sure seems like a major oversite by Athearn.
If you purchased these models for your consists... did notice the missing details???[IMG]

This just came in the mail. Three older MDC Roundhouse boxcars all marked with the Moscow, Camden & San Augustine Railroad road numbers 6028, 6048, 6091. Next I will have to buy some micro trains trucks for them. Also some Missouri Pacific diesel locomotive decals for an project of mine.

I can see how they can get from Camden NJ to St. Augustine FL... but... how do they get here from Moscow Russia... over the North Pole...?... LOL.
