There is no rhyme or reason to how the USPS is handling packages either. My wife ordered a video game from Best Buy for my son in mid November. It shipped from Macon GA heading north to our house just north of Atlanta (120 miles maybe?). It showed picked up, scanned at the Macon USPS facility and then in transit. On Monday, my wife called Best Buy because still no delivery. Best Buy called her back Tuesday morning declaring the package lost and refunded the payment and asked her to place a replacement order. She did that right away. This time, the package showed shipped from the same facility on Wednesday. Then yesterday (Friday) both the original shipment and the new shipment both arrived here. So, same ship point, same destination, one took a month and one took 2 days, how can there be any logic to that?

My wife ordered two decorative knives last month for our best friend and his son for Xmas. From the same store...same time...same shipping address (our house). One arrived early last week. The other one is still MIA !! SMDH ! :censored::mad:

We received a sale flyer from Kohl's in today's mail.

    Not unusual.

Except that the sale this particular flyer was advertising ENDED 17 days ago.

One got to Chicago on the 4th and sat in customs till the 11th let Chicago then and still has not got here 400 miles away, was in KC 3 days ago(120Miles). The other never left Customs in Frankfort Germany as far as anyone knows. So not just the USPO.

Have some ship decals that have made it all the way from China and through customs. Been siting in a NJ post office for three days. My motorcycles with sidecars are still in Germany hung up at a shipping center. A Christmas gift ordered in mid November will not make it here until after January if at all.

    Not the norm lately.

Most likely it was “found” when the second one was sent. I had the same problem with a HDD I ordered from NewEgg. It got picked up, ended up in Utah, then nothing. A month later. Called NewEgg, made a claim, ordered another. The day the second one shipped the first one showed up, but was still showing in Utah. 3 days later it showed delivered, and the second one ended up in Seattle (normal) then made its way back to NewEgg. We figured NewEgg noticed the first one eventually made it and had the second one recalled. A few weeks later the second one showed up. NewEgg said keep it, I had been recalled but someone sent it out a second... or third time.

    Continuing with the anecdotes...

    - A seller which doesn't advertise here and therefore Shall Not Be Named reports 14 day delivery of Priority Mail packages.
    - An non-railroad item I bought for my wife (she's a fan of Hermey the Dentist from "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer") went from a small town in Georgia to a bigger town in Georgia, to Atlanta, to Orlando (?!?), back to the bigger town in Georgia, and finally on its way to me here in Rochester NY.
    - I sent a package Priority Mail to my mother in New Jersey. It was "out for delivery" for six days.
    - My brother who lives in Eastern Pennsylvania sent a Christmas package to my mother -- tracking says it came HERE to Rochester. Wait, what?
    - Meanwhile a Christmas package I sent First Class to my friend in Brooklyn arrived there in two days.

I don't blame the USPS workers at all. I often cite the fact that the Postal Service is the only entity on earth required to pre-fund pensions for 75 years. Yes, for people who are not yet born! Jeff Bezos would have an aneurysm if he had to run Amazon under that requirement.

A lot of times these days I find Priority Mail takes LONGER than First Class and of course more expensive. A package to my son in college took 4 days Priority Mail (it should be two days) but a similar size and weight package took two days First Class.

Interestingly tracking for both shows a different route. Initial stop in-state shows different distribution centers. I wonder if there is different logistics used between the two classes.

From now on First Class to college. Cheaper and faster!

Didn't DeJoy change the rules to "no overtime / no extra runs" even when backlogs happened ?
Is that not at least one reason for what we're seeing ??

Despite delays, I still stand behind USPS.
When tracking finally notes "out for delivery", I've found that day to be the day. Physical delivery happens within a window of 11:30am and 1:00pm. Delivery is usually (80+%) to a locked parcel box.

With UPS/FedEx, the equivilant of "out for delivery" is something like "on truck for delivery before 9:00pm". Great. A window of essentially the entire day vs a USPS window of an hour and half. And delivery WILL be to my front porch. Typically with no knock or door bell ring. And twice with FedEx I've had those "out...9pm" notices change back after 9pm to "at delivery sort facilty". Rinse, lather and repeat tomorrow. For UPS at least I can divert to my local UPS Store, but that usually adds another day before I get the item because they close at 6pm.

The USPS has to deliver to ever household 6 days a week. Whether a mailbox or NBU's and they deliver every day. My bride was a letter carrier for 26 years, she is proud of her job and the way she did it. Not gonna get all nuts, you should read this, if you want to see why the USPS can never deliver up to the law.

    https://ips-dc.org/how-congress-manufactured-a-postal-crisis-and-how-to-fix-it/

Take a quick look, it is not a long read. And will tell you perhaps why the USPS is "ham-stringed" like no other shipping service on planet earth.
I think they are doing a great job, despite some severe operating challenges.

What people fail to understand with any government related operation is those people making the decisions could not make it out here in the real world. The vast majority of them are career in the legal "profession" or straight politicians. That leaves almost none with any business acumen! And those few with any REAL knowledge of how to create, build, run an actual business are generally shunned. This is why we have such bureaucratic nightmares foisted upon us. And those of you who have never EVER been in business.....:mad::mad:

Back in the day, about thirty five years ago, when I had an insurance claims job handling worker's compensation claims, we would periodically receive complaints of people not receiving their compensation checks. These were only going about 40 miles and normal delivery was one day. But every once in a while a check or two would not get delivered. Standard procedure was to wait seven days then cancel the check and reissue. Never failed that ten to fourteen days later the original check would be returned to us with all sorts of markings on it from post offices in Kentucky. We mailed the check in Pennsylvania and it was going to an address also in Pennsylvania. All this happened with a regularity and it happened with just mail that was going to a particular zip code. The post office had no explanation for it. One time we issued three checks to one individual and he never got them. Due to the approaching holiday my boss asked me to personally deliver a fourth check to him. So on December 22, 1987 I drove almost seven hours to cover a hundred mile round trip in a snow storm that shut all of the schools and most businesses to personally hand the guy his check. Shortly after the new year the three checks we had previously issued were returned to us by the post office.

Well after two weeks in the post office in Alabama the metal etchings I ordered are finally on the move. Still do not expect to see them until the end of the month because they will probably get hung up in Richmond Va again.

Over the weekend I ordered a few parts for my new to me S10. We are not talking RockAuto or anything like that, these are basically restoration parts from E-bay. We will see what it takes to get them to me. The closest parts are in CA, and I think NY or FL are the farthest. Oh and there is one in IL so let the tracking fun begin!!

Checked the status of this just a few minutes ago and NOW the status says that it arrived OK on the 7th and left OK on the 7th only not to be seen again after that. So for 11-13 days it was in OK only to find out it wasn't in OK...

And, no, SS office said that they HAD to have the original wedding license. My mother questioned that and said that she would send a certified copy and was told she could NOT.

I would call back and see if you get someone else or talk to a supervisor. What about their website? Do they mention anything about sending in originals and what's the idea behind that? Makes no sense now a days to need to see the our especially with the state of the mail system.

How about bringing it in person and wait while they look at it and you get it back right there when they are done?

I would be very concerned in sending the original.

Well, I don't know. Seems to me we got business people like Louis Dejoy who was CEO of New Breed Logistics, a Logistics enterprise. You would think he, as Postmaster General, would be able to solve the problems in the Post Office but all he did was make them worse. There are others like Ben Carson, a doctor by profession but is Secretary of Housing and Urban Redevelopment, Dan Brouillette, Secretary of Energy was a vice president of Ford Motor Co. Sonny Perdue, Secretary of Agriculture was a farmer and is involved with several family businesses. Elaine Chao, is Transportation Secretary and has ties to her family's shipping company which also has ties to China. All of these people have been or are under investigated. None of them know diddley squat about running a government agency. Then, of course, we have a president who was such a great business man that he declared bankruptcy five times. The good news is that now we have a president elect who is a fan of trains and is appointing people who are qualified to run government agencies. Didn't want to turn this into a political post but truth needs to be heard because we had so little of it the last four years. And the truth is that the Post Office is screwed up because a business person was placed in charge of it and all he wanted to do was to cut costs and could care less about the resulting decline in service.
