Welcome back everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend and got a lot accomplished. Let's get started. Saturday: I slept in and enjoyed watching the falling snow while sipping on a hot cup of Earl Grey. The main objective today was that room that was nearly floor to ceiling of stuff. After a full day, I had made a dent in the pile, trying to organize and actually put things away where they belong. I found half empty boxes from when we moved in our current place from 2015. By 8:00pm I was ready to relax. Ang and I enjoyed popcorn, hot chocolate and a movie. Sunday: More of the same unfortunately. I ended up making a pile for donation, online auctions and trash. Trash day will be epic. I wish I could say this project is over but I still have a few things I need to put away. By 6:00pm last night, the room was a vast improvement and almost ready for the new office / studio. Ang made homemade chili and we relaxed by enjoying this with warm Johnny Cake, That's cornbread for you non-New Englanders, and watched a movie. The good news was getting a huge project 90% done. This has been a project that has been hovering over me for a number of years and like the garage project, an epic, multi weekend project. So how about you? What did you accomplish this past weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble once again on Friday the 22nd to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always... High Greens!
Adding some microscopic laser detail parts to a laser kit. Good grief. The amount of time I have in this one freight car is way too much. And I am not doing much extra at all! I have one more similar kit from this company, and they are really nice, but enough is enough.
Not to much accomplished other than cleaning up my mess. I did burn up two lighting effects somehow. I have a third to try but I will wire it up with DC instead of DCC and see how that works out.
My weekend went as I expected. Saturday: - Lined my Wife's new trunk with cedar, She is happy - and, that is a good thing. I also managed to put some paint on my FT project. Sunday: Prepped and added the second color to the FT's Hope Y;all had a great and productive weekend, Wolf
Well my plans to get back to work on the layout didn't pan out. Friday and Saturday were spent dealing with my wife suffering a medical issue. We were up most of the night and went to the hospital Saturday. Thankfully not a true emergency, but very urgent lab work ordered by her scleroderma specialist to determine scleroderma had not progressed to her kidneys. Thankfully none of the tests indicated this and she was released and will be treated by family doctor. There are two sports events I try not to miss, Indy 500 and The Chili Bowl. I had forgotten that this weekend was the Chili Bowl, so Saturday night we watched half of the televised portion. Sunday was eight hours of cutting and loading firewood then dropping a few small trees, along with a few emergent repairs to my compact backhoe Zeke. By then I was beat. After dinner we watched the Chili Bowl A Main. It was AWESOME! My wife is waiting for a change in medication to take affect and is still not felling to good so today I'm going to dust and vacuum the house then get my little train room squared away. I'm shooting for a midweek post on the N scale HCD thread to report some layout progress. Have a great week everyone.
It was a productive weekend. Got the tan paint and then sanded grout over all the areas that was ready for it. Also got a first coat of black paint on the river and started a batch of rock castings. I have been putting off going to the hardware store for more drywall joint compound and tempered hard board due to the coronavirus and am working around that but still making progress. Also did some cleaning up of the train room.
I dragged out another old box of steam locomotive parts shoved to the back burner many years ago. Converting an old Con Cor/Kato Great Northern S2 Northern to a T&NO (SP) GS1.
Well, I got several things done I wanted, not all, but a good weekend nonetheless. Managed to order several TCS decoders for a few engines. I basically don't like the decoders that came with them. My intention over time is to equip all of my fleet w/ TCS WOW sound Pulled out several cars and refurbished them. The PFE Reefer is one I purchased at the Raleigh Train Show in 2019 for about $3. I fixed the hatches, replaced the stirrups under the loading doors, and put on new Athearn 90400 trucks w/ metal wheels. Yesterday, I put all four cars under the air-brush for weathering and sealing. Also used some powders on them. Worked on a couple of buildings The surprise was Saturday, Amazon delivered my label maker I order Friday afternoon. Didn't see that happening. So yesterday I got it out of the bubble pack, set it up, and did some labeling under the layout. My old label machine (Brother) bit the dust so I have been meaning to get a new one.
Weekend was too short as usual. Saturday morning, I finished up the door hardware replacements and the wife if happy its done. Still have to go back and tweak one door that doesn't latch good. Started working on putting up some display shelves in the train room closet but that came to a quick stop when the wife noticed a wet spot on the ceiling of our basement guest room. Found we had a pin hole leak in a copper water line and have to get that replaced that day. Moving furniture out and prepping for the plumber ate up the rest of the day. Sunday was clean up the mess left from cutting open the ceiling and then I went back and put up the rest of the shelf sections I had. I also cut the last two silo parts from a new stick of PVC pipe and got them added to the main section of the elevator. By that point all stopped as I was and am still beat. Here's hoping next weekend will be a bit more peaceful
HI Guys; Well -- to be honest, this was not the best train weekend in the world, Im waiting to have a triple bypass (Delayed by COVID) and as a result, spent the weekend feeling pretty crappy, and spent most of it sleeping -- I did get a couple hours working on JMRI Operations and got a few things figured out, but that was about it. Sorry I dont have more to report TIM
I too am glad that peoples health is heading in the right direction. Is it Monday already? I got the cabooses end walls and side walls attached. Next will be internal bracing and cupola end walls and decking. Slowly but surely...
My time has been spent doing other tasks lately but I was able to get a couple things done over the weekend... Below is the ESP32 CS PCB I've been working with on my desk and on soon to go back on the layout: I've removed two ICs that were part of the RailCom detectors since they were having thermal isssues (likely a short) and I've now added an LM358 op-amp for current sense. And this is the new OLED display I'll be using on my layout once I figure out how I'm going to mount it to the fascia: This is a 2.4in OLED display using the SSD1309 chipset, something that wasn't previously supported by ESP32 CS.
Get well soon! Hopefully you'll be back to wrestling with JMRI soon! I got nothing done... knee is getting better, so shooting for next weekend. Sent from my SM-N950U1 using Tapatalk
Friday I wrote, "...my objective is to turn last weekend's storage cabinets, pictured below, into a useable workstation." Today I have this to offer: Done! Well, not quite. Workstation is together, but I am not showing you what the insides of the drawers look like. Some are good, some not so much. Be tracking down some organizers to improve things over time. Found peg board and laminate remnants at the RE Store for $5 total. Had enough spare lumber and hardware to put it all together. Very little waste and no leftovers to store. Things are cramped here. Traveling next weekend meaning I will have to wait a while before I break it in. Stay safe
This is great. Can you tell me the source for the drawer sets and the height? I would like to make something similar to put under my sectional layout and have as portable/storable. Thanks!
Robert, Search Amazon for Winsome Halifax Storage/Organization. I got the cabinets for $99 each and checking now it looks like that price is only good for the black finish now. The pricing is very confusing as it appears the same cabinet is available from Amazon, but under different listings with different prices. In any case, I changed the casters for something sturdier. I cannot measure mine as built, but the height is close to 36". There are similar cabinets available from other sources, for example Ikea's Alex product. Stay safe,
The design credit goes to Tom Knapp. There is a picture of his in the Nov/Dec N-Scale. Part of a series about his layout and the workbench is tucked underneath. As to it being "neat," perhaps I should post a pick in 3 months to see how much stuff accumulates on the flat surfaces Stay safe
