Phosphorus was very dangerous and heavy. It would ignite when exposed to air. It was transported in a water slurry. It was very heavy, thus the six axle trucks. The railings consist of 52 solder joints. FB_IMG_15612450844796470.jpg FB_IMG_15612450467916820.jpg

Awesome model! The tank looks scratchbuilt, how did you do it? The whalebelly geometry seems pretty difficult to do by hand. Do you use drawings or work from photos?

I think the main thing that prevents me from scratching my own tank cars is coming up with tube stock for the tank itself, and getting ends that are the same diameter. I think a lathe would really help me here, but I know that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Those Buckeye trucks are pretty cool too, where did you get those?

I guess I cheated a bit. The belly section is from the Atlas LPG whale belly. The black sections came from an Athearn 62' tanker. The ends were from an early Atlas Kaolin car. The trucks are from Union Terminal Imports, and are brass.
