Thanks George for the trek out in the cold for pictures. I forgot where you are and it's been as high as 77* here this past Wednesday. Should have remembered that temp. was not everywhere. At any rate, outstanding work! ! Be warm, Carl
Next up...Jeans Valley. After about an hour of intense negotiations THE WIFE and I came to a mutual decision. The next phase will be redoing Jeans Valley. I/we where never really happy with the tar paper parking lots and the basswood sidewalks. Here is what the last redo looked like....mostly street work.... . . Once we decided that a total redo was necessary I got to work... Removed all the buildings and the tarpaper stuff on the back side... Removed the sidewalk around THE Railroad Park and got to sanding everything down smooth... I laid (painted) new asphalt (chalkboard paint) for the main parts of town... After a couple of coats and some drying time I put the buildings back in a temporary fashion. Once THE Wife decides just where she wants what I will go in and lay new sidewalks. I will also have to regrass THE Railroad Park. As they say... "A layout is never really done."
Update on "Jeans Valley"... All the parking lots and the street have been 're-asphalted' NEW 6 foot wide sidewalks are cut...painted...and glued down...wheewwww ! Still to do.... Stripe all the parking spots in the parking lots. Restripe the street. Touch up some paint here and there. Reroof buildings that have cardboard roofs with new plastic roofs ! Put some windows in said buildings...lol Re-sod THE Railroad Park. Railrail the Excursion train and the old steamer on display in the park. Rebuild "THE Diner". New streetlights Put up some regulatory signs etc... And last but not least.... Wake up all the people sleeping in the park and 'plant' them upright around town... .
okane, I haven't gotten to the color chart yet. I didn't forget. I should be finishing up my control panel within the next few days then I'll knock out the color chart.
It looks like you may have a mole or gopher problem there in the park! Am waiting for closeups of the finished streets and downtown, with lights!
Styrene. I bought 7x12 sheets and cut them down to a scale 6 feet. A pain but not that bad to do. Painting them was another story. Temps here didnt want to cooperate. Had a few day in the mid 50's and painting them out in the sunlight worked out ok.
The 'gopher holes' or 'lawndart holes' ? Originally that area was all forest...until...the plans changed. I will just fill them with glue and then put static grass over it all. It's gonna be fine...
Or just put trees back in them thar holes ! The holes in the roadway ? Looks like the roads around here....lots of potholes.....LOL
So they are root holes... the logging company needs to reassess their safety culture, everyone knows people can get hurt when large holes are left in a park like that.
Yup ! I run trains for a few hours and then get an itch to get some stuff done. I have to turn trains off or otherwise knock them over when they come by when I lean over the layout. These are things i 'want' to do...not things i 'have' to do though. It's more fun when you dont 'have to'.
