This car was given to me by a dear friend (now long gone). Can you please tell me who mfg'd the kit (metal and wood). Are there any prototype RR's that used a similar type car? Images? 36 HO scale feet long, well deck 15 scale feet long. Thanks in advance. Here it is siting on some shop trucks, the car has CV trucks. Scalecoat boxcar red.
I know them by the common name of 'depressed center flat car.' They are meant for really heavy and tall loads like power transformers. Just google those words, you'll see lots of images if you click the images tab. What metal is it made of? can you see it from underneath maybe? Nice model and a real show stopper.
Thank You! I am quite familiar with the concept, pulled a few around during my career. Drop deck, depressed center or other. My question is about the HO scale models mfgr, and what prototype RR may have used this specific model. Maybe an E&C model or similar, it is white metal, maybe lead, maybe pewter, I really don't know. Have had it a long time, I just want to do it justice, as far as prototype paint and decals. It may a total generic model too. This is the info I seek. Again thanks for your input. I do appreciate it.
Could this be a Red Ball model? https://hoseeker.net/redball/redball36depressedcenterflatcarinstr.jpg
Thanks guys for the input and discussion. Mr. T, I think thats the car! Everything matches up. I note the instructions even give a couple prototype car examples. I am going with the CNW 48005. Although I cannot find an image of it as of yet. I also am going to guess that in the 70's, boxcar red will work too on this little bugger.
