Let's start off with some almost ancient history this week. This was from some time in the 90's before I moved to Marlette. Although I think I may have seen this pair again in Plymouth during my 6-1/2 year suburban Detroit exile, I couldn't find any photographic evidence of that. I did, however, definitely catch GP40-2 6480 and GP30 road slug 2253 a long time ago in Yale while they were still in the old CSX scheme. The disturbed earth in the foreground is where the old grain elevator had stood until shortly before this was taken.
A rusty looking ole cylindrical hopper and a Western Pacific hopper rolling southbound on the CSX at Acworth GA - 2008
I'm assuming asfalto and UN 3257 would make that a car load of hot liquid tar. Did that load come from Mexico?
Nice catch on the WP hopper! Not sure if this is a rerun or not, but a nice Rock hopper at Bowbells, ND: This high hood Geep wandered into Minot back in January.
GE B39-8, built in December 1987, #45443, as LMX 8534. Sold to Relco as RLCX 8534 in June 2001. Sold to National Rail Equipment as NRE 8534.
Those old WP Covered Hoppers get around and have been around a long time! I saw a similar car just south of Fresno, Ca. a few monthes ago:
I got off early from work Friday and decided to take the scenic route home. I caught California Northern GP15 #1570 and one of the gen sets heading back north to Tracy. This is just between Crows Landing and Newman along Ca. 33.
CP 677-Ainsworth, IA Lead unit was longhood forward (8044) and second out was CEFX 1006(ex Central Maine and Quebec) Most people get drunk, others want sex but as for me, I go Railfanning.
I pity the engineer having to drive backwards for the long haul. Otherwise nice photos, Buddy. Thanks.
I might have to keep one clean. I have the older version (I think it's a Pullman Standard) that I want to really dirty up.
