    Good day all.

I have an Atlas Classic RS3 with the factory Loksound decoder. Is there anyway I can set the decoder to not auto start when track power is turned on? I have searched with no luck so I am hoping there is something I missed and someone knows a way to do this.

    Thanks all.

Yes, you should be able to set the decoder to be silent on startup. This is one of my favorite features of ESU decoders, especially compared to Tsunami. This is a lot easier to do with JRMI or a LokProgrammer. I don't know how to program this directly using CVs from a throttle.
The function map is completely customizable in an ESU decoder, so you can change logic and interlocking commands on any function. Which means there are a ton of bits in the function map. JMRI takes 10 or so minutes to program the function map, so I can't imagine doing this by hand, typing in each CV bit.

Default, F8 should be startup. I have a European locomotive that has F1 being startup, so I remapped it using JMRI. This is the tutorial I used for learning how to do this:

They are using the LokProgrammer here, but JMRI will do the same thing. In short, I think you need to change the logic of F8 to 'not' or something like that. That way, it will do the reverse of what its doing now. Make sure to select the prime mover as the sound file connected to F8. The sound list can be found on the ESU website under the download for your sound file. The first time I did this, I didn't choose any sound files to map to the functions, and I had to redo the whole thing.

I haven't looked at it in a while, but there may be a 'silent on startup' checkbox on one of the other JMRI sheets too. Someone may have to confirm this for me though.

Thanks Mr. Trainiac. I used JMRI and remapped it from "Not F8" to "F8" and now it stays quiet when track power is turned on until I manually start the loco.

Looks like I had the 'not' backwards, but it's good that it works now. It's interesting that the Atlas model has the sound start with track power, as I don't think that's the default setting for most ESU sound files. Was this a factory equipped model, or had a previous owner made changes to the CVs?

It's factory equipped but I received the loco when a friend passed away. I doubt he would have changed it as he got me to program the address in his loco's and then just ran them as they came.
