Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend and got a lot accomplished. Let's see how we all did.

Saturday: As predicted, the team consisting of my out of state friend, company photographer and I left early in the morning and arrived in Toluca to dark signals. Not a good start! We had breakfast and hung out there for about an hour before heading to our first location. We were granted a few east bound stack trains and that seamed to open things up. We had a full day of railfanning and had some great opportunities for images. We capped the day off at Galesburg looking over the railfan bridge and then having BBQ. We got home at just after 10:00pm.

Sunday: The big day. My buddy Brian got to be the first to run former C&IM #31, the Monticello Museum's latest addition. Brian had a good time running this one of two RS1325's. My out of of state buddy was next, then we went to lunch and had a good time. I was the last operator of the day so it was just me and Angela along with the Museum's volunteer and instructor, Bill, in the cab.

What made this special is it was a small freight train consisting of a hopper, boxcar, two tank cars and a covered hopper and caboose. At the end, I received my official paper and a cool magnet of the locomotive I operated. I can now say I have operated an NW2 and an RS1325. I need to add the Wabash #1189 to my list. It was a great way to finish the weekend.

So how about you? What did you get done this weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 23rd to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great weekend, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

    As planned
    • Worked on a couple of steam engines. Put on Bull Frog. The Proto2000 Kanawha performed well and pulled 5 more cars up the grade. The Bachmann “Value” Kanawha didn’t fare as well. I see more weight in the boiler’s future on that engine.
    • Started scenery work for a long dirt road. This road will parallel the Division mainline and allows access for HO people to do whatever it is HO people do below bridges.

    Good morning,

On Saturday I spent much of my available time with the WGH virtual train show. It was better than I expected so did not get out to the train room much at all that day.

On Sunday I got started on 3 un-decorated 89 ft M/T flat cars. I thought I had 4 of these but turned out there were only 3. These are going to be Trailer Train F89X types and checking another box I see that I already have enough trailers to populate them.

On Sunday I continued on these and packed up a few items that had sold on the auction site on Saturday. Full weekend here, hope you all enjoyed yours.

Saturday, my wife and I spent some time going through 70 years of accumulation at my parent's house. As I packed a couple boxes in my Dad's train room (nearly all N-scale) I discovered two lengths of Z-scale flex track. Since the Z-scale layout is now at my house and is on the list of future projects, those came home with me, along with some paints, colorants, tools, and scenery.

Sunday, I checked in at the Sebring Model Railroad Club and found it to be a lightly attended day. That was in my favor as my goal for the day was to learn things. I successfully ran an engine, then a train, using the WiFi connection and the Engine Driver app on my tablet. All of those things were "firsts" for me. Then spent some time learning how to get from point-A to point-B on the club layout, how to read the ladder schematics and work the switch controls, etc. Many firsts, and now two engines to clean and some car maintenance that presented itself have been added to this week's "to do" list.

For the layout I was able to progress
    Italian HO scale modular layout - WIP | Page 6 | TrainBoard.com - The Internet's Original
Then I tried to swap frames to 2 PROTO ALCO FA, but noticed one was longer than the other (did not know these could be different lengths), and that the one I wished to be digital could not accept the "shorter" frame from the donor (had an 8 pin board) due to the louvers at the rear interfering with the board (the donor had a different way to reproduce the louvers).
Also tried to find some passable louvers to no avail, and in any case the costs of swapping (time and money) were ballooning.

So, result of two hours of work is back to stage one: will reset everything to the original status, and sell what was supposed to be the donor locomotive to recover at least some of the money...

We did not get the netting off the pond this weekend. Next weekend is looking better. I did do the heavy cleaning on the filter box and try the new pump. I need to get short piece of pipe so I can thread the fountain head through the top of the box.

The weathering of the Engine House is complete, and it has been placed on the layout temporarily. When it is placed permanently, I will have to add some height to the foundation son the doors will clear the rails especially once they are resting on roadbed.

Just a few minutes spent mounting couplers on a car. My sorry old neck was bothering too much to sit hunched over a work bench. :(

    Friday built some more trees.
Saturday obtained a sponsor for the Free-moN event in Evanston WY in August.
Sunday worked on my 6’ module. Finished the painting and weathered some rocks with an India ink solution.
Monday will be spent doing ground cover on all modules. Got my dirt. Haven’t used Arizona rock and mineral products before.

Just returned from a week at the beach in Tybee Island, Georgia. No modeling outside of a few visits to Trainboard to keep up with what "y'all" have been up to. The vacation was almost ruined after I took a bad spill on the bike the first day there. I was trying to go around a bump in the road, and ran over some leaves that hid the pavement drop off. The rear wheel kicked out and I went over sideways on to my hip, ending up with a nasty hematoma, and some scrapes and bruises. Wasn't able to get back on the bike again until the next to the last day there. On the way home we checked out some model homes near Hilton Head. There may be a move in the future, but the back log in new homes is over a year, in which time the wife will be nearing retirement. And for the foreseeable future we'll keep the primary home so the nearly finished layout is still alive for a while yet. The homes we looked at have an optional hobby room and a large two car garage, so there will be an opportunity to do some modeling there. Of course we are still in the "thinking about it" phase, but we are definitely leaning in that direction. I'm not getting any younger and after losing the first year of my retirement to Covid, I'm feeling a little more pushed to do something before the window starts to close.

Neck pain. I can relate. Last week a little heel tendon irritation. Very distracting. As for the above projects, more cool stuff. As for me, it has been a chore day preceded by a chore weekend with Sunday completely off duty. I have decided to add a little more to the hotel diagram. This should keep construction efforts more complete as well. High Greens back atcha'. Be safe. Have fun!.

It's hard to keep up with so much going on this last weekend. Impressive list of accomplishments! Sharon and I spent Friday evening catching the opening games of the two regional soccer teams, the Sounders and Reign. On to Saturday. It wasn't on my list, but the siren call of the lawn mower combined with ample sunshine became irresistible. Sunday my son came by for mimosas and a veggie scramble, and to complete his taxes. With all that fun, I still got two and a quarter of my three model objectives completed.

I put together a first pass boiler mockup of the Mikado. Here's a collage of three pics I made to illustrate the idea. The domes and stack are parts I had laying around and won't make the final version. Learned a lot about what needs to change in the next version.
    boiler mock-up composite (2).jpg

I also assembled the 4' T-trak module bases that have been kicking around the workspace a few weeks. Now I can move on to the next phase.
    4-foot modules.jpg

My third objective was putting holders for screwdrivers and knives on the pegboard of the workbench. I got started with the details. Sadly did not complete the project, yet.

Another great weekend in the books. Starting to see notices that more shows will return over the next few months. The NPRHA is going ahead in Missoula this September, Lynden Lions are looking at first weekend in October and Monroe may return in late February or early March. Oh, and the sun was shining, in Bellingham, in April, record high temp. Gotta' love it!

    Stay safe,

FINALLY got the yard/station isolated and on the booster. Still haven’t quite figured out how to run the turntable. Thinking of setting the turntable motor on its own power supply, and trying to run the bridge track on the booster with the DCC signal. Just not sure which wires go where from the control box to the booster. It's an older version of the Walthers DCC turntable, so the documentation is a little sparse.

Thank you! The whole project got started because I found a Model Power Vandy tender at the last Monroe show. The wires had been clipped out, but the plastic bits were all there.

You are quite welcome, good sir! :) ... Ohhh, Moose has a Model Power short vandy tender with which Moose hopes to replace a Spectrum vandy tender on a Spectrum 2-6-6-2 -- just need to figure out how to jam a sound decoder into it. Groan...

Edit: Added the what upon which the tender will go!
