HO Announcement: New CSX and Norfolk Southern Coil Cars

    Just announced and in stock - new road numbers for our two best-selling Rivet Counter™ HO Scale Thrall-Trinity 42’ Coil Steel Cars: CSX/Boxcar Logo and Norfolk Southern/Protect III.

    In the mid-1990s, Thrall Car Manufacturing began producing a 42’ Coil Steel Car with single hood. Trinity purchased Thrall in 2001 and continued production of this car until 2012. Many of these cars remain in service today and can be seen on unit coil car trains or mixed manifest freights throughout North America.

    CSX features:

    Era: early 2012 to present
    YN3B paint scheme
    Late body type: built by Trinity: Trinity builder logos, heavy vertical stiffener on the top of the draft gear, and end handrails attached to the car ends
    Early version 2 hood: end handrails, round top lifting bail, inside guide stacking brackets, and single reinforcement hood braces
    New road numbers

    Norfolk Southern features:

    Era: mid 1990s to present
    Thoroughbred paint scheme
    Early body type: built by Thrall
    Thrall builder logos, heavy “H” shaped reinforcement on top of draft gear, and end handrails attached to hood ends
    Protect III Hood, unique to Norfolk Southern
    New road numbers
