Canadian Pacific Railway has merged with Kansas City Southern Railway for $25,000,000,000. As we gather here today we honor this wonderful railroad.

May the Southern Belle rest in peace. I don't know much KCS history, but sad to see another US railroad being gobbled up by a megamerger.

Until the Fat Lady sings (the STB) this is just a proposal.

The last of the midwest North-South railroads, all the rest are merged (IC-MP-MKT-SSW-KCS).

How is it that the Canadian railroads have all this penetration into U.S. markets, meanwhile U.S. railroads have virtually no penetration into Canada's?

Seems like bad politics at the expense of US voters (again).

I’m not sure, but I’m guessing that CN and CP so dominate the Canadian system map that there’s not much for a U.S. road to take an interest in.

Then too, Canadian law might be a limiting factor.

There really needs to be some sort of quid pro quo......

Didn't EHH start it all when he was with IC and brought about the merger with CN?

You are correct. EHH was force to reckoned with. He was a loose cannon in many minds, just not those of his Boards of Directors and Wall Street. He was a classical example of, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance and performance, baffle them with BS!" He got his way in every case.
