I have started a kitbash to make a 2-6-8-0 from a Mantua 2-6-6-2. The drivers from a Mantua 4-8-0 look to be the same. I measured the driver and axle diameter and they are the same. Also, the 4-8-0 has an uneven axle spacing so one-rod set looks to match the 2-6-6-2

GN had 2-6-8-0s. Will this engine be loosely based on the GN prototype?

I got the Idea from the GN 2-6-8-0s . It will depend on what I can find that will fit the Mantua frame. I used a Lt Pacific shell on another 2-6-6-2 build and it fit great . I believe the GN engines had bigger boilers. I will make sure the the mech works good before I start the boiler.

I started to work on this project again. Need to let the CA dry and will try powering it. I have a bind somewhere right now.

Got the boiler from a Rivarossi heavy pacific / Mikado and after no cutting and filing got it to fit.

this is just the beginning need to fine tune the fitment and add details.

I have decided to leave the stock motor in it. It can run very smooth and slow speed is great. It is a open frame 5 pole and the magnet is very strong . Do not know if it is the stock motor or not , but it mounts with factory mounting screw.

Some of those old open frame motors are very good, and quite strong as well.

Got the tender painted and tested it out with a train. Will need to add weathering next.

Certainly looks GN, with that pilot/headlight coming toward the camera!

Thanks. I tried running my two Mantua articulated together and my 1st kitbash Mantua 2-6-6-2 runs faster,so no double heading for now. It has the newer factory can motor with flywheel the 2-6-8-0 is the tube drive with Factory open frame motor ,but is 5 pole. May just keep the open frame motor for now. The motor magnetism so so strong that when I added a crew with a tweezers it keep sticking to the motor and was had to place the crew.
