    Interresting.
But sorry, maybe I read that a little bit quickly, but I have one question about what you wrote above : when considering a train of DIT units, "boxcarred" as you call them, does dynamic brake work on these (if these units are equipped with, of course) when selected from head end on the working units ?

No, they work just like boxcars. That is they don't provide any braking other than from the train line air. Dynamic brakes are controlled through the MU cable, so it would need to be connected throughout the consist.

Correct. Also, the traction motors turned generators/alternators would need excitation coming from... the prime mover and the main alternator/generator of each locomotive. That's how the amount of dynamic braking is controlled, the MU cable linking each locomotive's controls (including throttle for the prime mover). That really can't be done with the prime mover turned off.

At least that's how it was done back in the day. With dem dang newfangled gizmos ye never know....:cautious:

A CSX SD40-3 (originally built for Conrail) pulls the local across US Highway 49 in Gulfport, MS on Friday 4 June 2021.

Just up the road, KCS GP40-2Ls take on sand in prep for working the Port.

Was CSX 4038 originally built for Conrail, or was it originally built for the Clinchfield RR as their #8131?

Former Illinois Central SW7RM, now BUGX 1204, was fourth out on the daily eastbound M338.

This is only one of five originally built for the IC.

From 06/27/2018 at Chester, SC, Lancaster & Chester GP-38AC 2866 (former SOU 2866) works an industry. Formerly owned by a fading textile manufacturer, the L&C refused to thrown in the towel and gained its independence. Later purchased by Gulf & Ohio, the L&C has greatly prospered and enjoys a well diversified traffic base of nearly 12,000 carloads a year on its 60 miles of road.

Middletown & Hummelstown GE 44 tonner number 1 is looking good near Harrisburg, PA on ex-Reading rails today. M&H #1 is assigned to the Ride the Rails for Cancer train, and is appropriately decked out for the occasion. DSC07790.JPG DSC07791.JPG

Those little buggers are tough as nails. That's an early model with the side radiators and "buttonholes" (closed in this case) in the hood sides. M&H's colors suit it quite nicely!

The December 1956 Official Railroad Guide shows that there was a Santa Fe mixed train # 301 that you could catch here at Shawnee, Oklahoma on Mon-Wed-Fri at 10:15 AM that would take you to Pauls Valley on the mainline, arriving at 12:50. From there, you had a choice of three northbound trains at 4:45 PM, 2:27 AM and 9:33 AM. Southbound, you had departures at 8:01 PM, 2:54 AM and 10:10 AM. # 302 left Pauls Valley on Tue-Thu-Sat at 12:15 PM and arrived at Shawnee at 2:30. I guess you could spend a lot of time waiting in the depot at Pauls Valley depending on which train you wanted to catch. Sturdy depot in Shawnee for so few trains.
