An old Minitrix U30CG that has been updated with new paint, wire handrails and a few other details. It still runs pretty well, much better than a lot of stuff from back in those days.
Russel, thanks for the blast from the past, I remember selling those when I used to work in a hobby shop back then, and they were one of the best N-Scale engines at that time. Good morning from cloudy, warm and rainy Northeast Ohio! IMRC 40' PS1 Boxcar w/8' Door, A-Line sill steps, painted with Scalecoat II Black Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals. One of several hundred of these cars built, some with Superior and some with YSD Doors in general service on the N&W. Athearn PS 2893CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II MOW Gray paint and lettered with Microscale Decals. Car was in Soda Ash Service on the P&LE and this is a repaint of a 1957 built car in the times of the PC. Eastern Car Works Depressed Center Flat where I finally got around to putting a load on. Load is an old Kibri Transformer that fits pretty well on the small deck that was designed to load small transformers from a GE plant on the New Haven who had 10 cars built for this work. Athearn SD39's ex Illinois Terminal that the N&W acquired with the IT hauling a general freight on the Strongsville Club layout. The actual SD39's spent most of their time hauling coal out the mines in Southeast Ohio replacing the ex-NKP SD9's and RSD-12's. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
@r_i_straw - I have one of those U30's stripped waiting a someday painting in the Santa Fe Yellow Bonnet scheme - which I think they would have looked really good in. I agree they were really good runners for their time.
It seems to be "tradition" to mount the insulators on transformer flat car loads going back to Lionel days when we were kids. All mine have them. They just look cool and everyone expects them to be there. However, I have never seen them on the prototype. Rats. I guess they are fragile and shipped separately, only to be installed during setup.
My photo this week is a new layout video I made a few days ago. This 3 minute video follows an eastbound Western Pacific freight train over the WP or eastbound paired track from Winnemucca to the Palisade tunnels.
From 11/2017 on my N Scale Delaware, Susquehanna & Northern, since dismantled. Hoping to start on my new layout very soon.
Russell, I built that car and transformer years ago, and then realized recently I should have left the insulators, etc. off and packed them in a box to be loaded onto the flat,, but since it was done I let it go.
Looking up the access road to the tower, going by the water tower and the coaling tower. On the left, behind the fence, is my growing scrap yard.
We don't see enough scenes depicting weedy right-of-way. Be it either industrial or lightly used main track. By chance do you have any more views?
I didn't get a chance to do a run by thus far this weekend. If I do I will be using this. A New Haven ALCO DL-109 by Proto 1000.
Well, I got a 24 year old train set today. The Athearn fiftieth anniversary set. I did have to put "glass" in the locomotive, and I'll need to get started wiring a LED headlight. But it's fun...
At the Sebring (Ohio) Model Railroad Club, crews know that passing through Hill Yard means passing by Mount Birkheimer, United Petroleum Refinery #1, and the North Island Bulk Oil Storage Facility. With four sidings, both the refinery employees and the switch crews from Hill Yard are certain to stay busy. Sent from my moto g(7) play using Tapatalk
