Heard the BigBoy was supposed to make a shake down run from Cheyenne to Denver today, returning to Cheyenne Friday. Guess they didn’t get to far, from what I’ve seen, as I guess train had to be towed back to Cheyenne due to problem of sorts. Don’t know what, as I didn’t see anything as to what/why. Was hoping to get out and catch it at La Salle. Then I realized, I couldn’t because of Dr visit that they canceled!! And with truck acting up as it did, maybe it was a good thing I didn’t go anywhere!
If 4014 ever comes around here again (it came through Albert Lea, 20 minutes away, in 2019) I won't miss it! I hope the problem wasn't too serious. Doug
What Union Pacific did with this locomotive, that sat unprotected in the Sothern California climate for decades, would be like NASA going out and refurbishing and launching a "Saturn 5" moon rocket. Now if UP could get an SP Cab-Forward operational, all would be well in the world . . .
Apparently, what I read, and what actually happened, are 2 different things! Have seen photos and videos, as the train passed through Greeley, Ault and Nunn. Also a report from Brighton. So.......
They were apparently testing a type of Positive Train Control so that the 4014 can lead without actually having the system on board the locomotive.
