I would have enjoyed seeing that. If you can understand.

Made a trip to the local hobby shop this morning; I saw they updated their site last night with the new Athearn spine cars, and I figured I would have to move quick to get one before they sold out. I also picked up a Lonestar Trailmobile flatbed trailer, expect that to show up on the Workbench thread soon.

Here is an update/PSA for the hitches on the spine car. I figured this would be helpful for other modelers. In the parts bag are raised and lowered hitches, but the raised ones have to be assembled from multiple flat parts. In my second-run car from 2008, the hitches were pre-assembled. The parts diagram still shows this, and the paperwork offers no instructions for building them.

Here are some photos for how they go together. The hardest part was figuring out where the little release levers go: they should fit in a hole on the sides of the fifth wheel (see second photo). This will need to be opened up a bit with a hobby knife.
The thin legs of the rear-facing panel should fit in the two holes in the forward section. I had to file the paint off to get them to go all the way in. I did not glue them to the car in case I wanted to remove the hitches later and swap them for a collapsed version.

I got a couple of new cars in the mail the other day. One is an Athearn NS 60' Gunderson double door box #471086 and the other is Intermountain BNSF 60' PS box #723268:

I've been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Athearn Genesis ACF 4600s in Mopac and C&EI. They finally arrived Saturday. Now that they're here I'm looking forward to a little free time to weather these bad boys.

I scored 11 ATSF flat cars for a future project on ebay and found a nice Bachmann F-unit for $10 at an antique shop while out browsing with my wife. It runs nice and smooth and converting to DCC will be easy. The coupler mountings are a bit strange so I may need to visit the local hobby shop for advice and parts.[IMG][IMG]

I’m excited about a Craigslist purchase I’m meeting up tomorrow for. I’ve been keeping an eye out for Great Northern equipment that would work on a northern Minnesota themed railroad. It appears this seller was collecting this for me. $350 for the whole lot. The Ore cars alone are worth $250.

I received another British 00 Gauge loco for my someday shunting layout. Oxford Rail just released this very nice J27 steam loco. Mine is in British Rails black with the early emplem: DSCN2433.JPG DSCN2432.JPG

Earlier this month I ordered several Rapido Reefers that have come out. Also ordered a couple ITLA modular building kits. One of the kits (Industrial Wall system) I will configure as a grain unloading building. I have the Walthers grain unloader which will sit on the roof and storage bins which will sit behind this building on a hill. The other ITLA kit (York Industries) I just ordered as a "lark". Also got a couple of ITLA detail kits for buildings.

Not exactly scale specific, but I saw this new Zona saw (left) at my local train shop yesterday and it needed to come home with me. I have been occasionally frustrated that my regular saw (right) couldn't cut a little deeper. That shouldn't be a problem now. [IMG]

I scored another GE Lamps covered hopper kit this week. I’d like to find a few more for sand hauling from the quarry that will be on my layout and the GE lightbulb factory in Youngstown, OH.

I had a mid ship arrive at my house from trainlife. Two boxcars I didn’t order. I called and let them know. They thanked me for my honesty and we’re going to send me a shipping label to send them back. I offered to buy them instead. (They said they were gonna send the original buyer another set of them). They took an additional $10 off the sale price. Pays to be honest. I now have two new exact rail boxcars.

This came in the mail a couple of weeks ago, but life has been too busy for me to dig it out to photograph it. Labor Day will do nicely! It's an Athearn California Northern GP15 (formerly CNW #4424) in the G&W orange. This loco is special to me because it passes through the small town I live in on SP old West Side Line:

I too ended up picking up the new Athearn Genesis GP15-1s. Not really my era or road but the HO scale switching layouts I have needed a modern-ish switcher and the former Conrail GATX unit fit the bill. It's a great runner and I'm hoping to get it set up with my Proto Throttle over the weekend.

Just ordered and haven't arrived yet, but Wheels of Time has finally shipped their HO straight taper SP bulkhead flatcars to vendors. These and the plain deck versions carried lumber and wallboard. some train store got them in yesterday morning and by late evening all the bulkhead versions were sold out, but I would guess lots of other vendors will have them if they carry Wheels of Time.

I just ordered one of those same units myself. With the lack of GO38’s and GP40’s in the Utah Railway scheme, I figured a leased unit will work. I am short on switching power.

I’m adding more power. This is the first. A BLI 2-8-0 consolidation. I need an ATSF 4-8-4 or similar now. My operations will entail three different eras spread over three operating sessions. Steam, Transition, and Modern.
