I know we are not supposed to post outside links here so, if you go to YouTube and search for Steve Davis KCS, the video of the POCR has been posted. Pop some popcorn and sit back. It’s just a tad over 45 minutes and details an operations session from June 2021. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks, Dale
Grab the share link from yt and post it. It works when I do it. I just do it online and not in the app. The Rainier Great Western HO Scale Railroad
Thanks for the show. I really enjoyed it. Those two engines, 555 & 001, are the kinds I'ld like but in N now. As well as getting a plan of the layout in N. Rich
Not really, when I host a session I stay out of the way. Remember the room is 12.5’ by 11.5’. There were 4 guys in there already with Steve doing the camera work. I usually will sit back in the doorway and watch. It seems to be working pretty good with 3 operators.
Hi Rich, I had the decals custom made, the company has them on their website. The locos, I painted. I used rattle can spray on 555. As far as the track plan, it was built with Atlas Sectional Track with flex used in just a few places. We only had so much room to work in so it’s 18” curves and the small Peco turnouts. The only 22” rad sections are in the wye. With N you could spread that plan out some and really make it shine. You would also be able to run a lot more cars in an operations session. It would be fun to see.
We have been having some connection issues with the UT4Ds that we are using for throttles on the POCR. To be fair, these were well used when I got them from a friend. This past week I got to try the UT6D on the layout as well as a operations session at the club. We will be receiving 2 new UT6Ds, batteries and a charger this week.
Some changes are underway at the port. Watching the video Steve produced of the layout, I was reminded of several things I needed to address. The west grain elevator. The Walthers kit is nice but the real west elevator has 9 barrels. The wall at CF Industries access needed painting to better hide the hole the track runs through. This is all in preparation for the Lone star/Midcor Tulsa Union Convention. I plan to keep moving forward with improvements up until October.
The Gavilon West Elevator is quite a unique structure. It features 9 barrels for storage, 2 conveyors on top and some neat detailing. I have started on my version for the west elevator.
Some interesting and well done details. Do you ever have time to run trains. Isn't that what this hobby is suppose to be all about. Well at least you get to do something related. Right! Rich
Hi Rich, I get quite a bit of enjoyment out of the scenery aspect of the layout. I also wanted to do something here that was not out of the box. The tubes are 2” pvc pipe and the top is 1/8” Masonite. I modified some parts I had for the tower. I do run trains, as a matter of fact, I spent Saturday as the drill operator at the club ops session. I also try to do some railfanning on the club layout when I can. Thanks! Dale
