Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a successful weekend in the train room or where ever your endeavors took you. Let's get started.

Friday: The move went well and we stopped to look at and walk the old Chain of Rocks bridge. We got back late.

Saturday: The only train thing I got to do was run to my not so local hobby shop with the Mustang and pick up a building flat kit, transfer ramp and ballast for the switching layout. Angela's Grandma had just come home from the hospital so we made the trip up north to visit.

Sunday: We took it easy, went to the antiques market and enjoyed the afternoon. After that it was home and lawn care until the sun went down and like that, another weekend evaporated into the air.

So how about you? What did you get done? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 20th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

Made some progress working on the conversion of an Accurail 36ft boxcar model to represent a Frisco System 1906 ACF truss rod boxcar, with some decals from Precision Design (William Brillinger). This will be a prototype, from which I will make adjustments to the design, and then construct a handful of these models for my Frisco layout.

(Yes, I put the couplers on upside down. Ha!)

Have a good week all, and take care,

    Happy Monday!

I finished swapping out a few pairs of trucks and couplers to M/T's on Saturday morning and that was it. Went up for breakfast and to run some errands with the wife. My bad knee dropped on me while were out. Yet again I was fortunate that I was close to something to grab and didn't hit the ground. Spent the rest of the weekend trying to stay off of it and no way I could make the stairs back to the train room. Maybe next weekend will be better.

Hope the rest of you all had a better time. :)

Have a nice exchange with a manufacturer started. Good to find someone who is on top of it, and helpful. Work bench was getting too cramped, so tidied it up a bit, then started into a new box car kit.

Completed drilling holes for lag screws in my train table legs and wouldn't you know it, after drilling some 20+ holes, I messed up on the final leg! I somehow drilled the hole crooked. I can leave it be, but it bothers me because the screw head will be out of alignment with all of the others. @logging loco suggested that I insert a dowel through the hole and try again and I may give that a try. I thought of this too, though I fear my attempt at a fix might result in something worse. Anyway, I prepared a dowel as seen in the picture. I may add some glue and give it a shot.

    Not unsuccessful, just unexpected

Saturday morning, I installed 2 sections of flex track north of the rolling mill, approaching the stone viaduct. I also installed several sections of fascia that I had previously cut and set aside.

Sunday morning, I installed two more sections of flex ahead of yesterday’s progress. I also installed the switch for the EAF and tail track and added feeders for 4 more sections of flex to be installed later.

This morning (off today) I inserted wood ties where they were missing at the flex track joints working north from the staging tunnel and the chemical plant. Then I went to Lowe’s for backdrop material, but they only had one sheet. Settled for more 1x3’s for the upper level benchwork.

    Good morning all,

Got the head lights done on both locos that had burned out ones. The new OptiVisor was a great help with that. The Rock Island E6A/B that I was working on for a friend ended up getting a new board and bright white LED light. I also rebuilt a new bright white LED board for one of my Kato SD45's.

Because this loco was DC and my layout is DCC only I needed to make a temporary DC setup to give it a good run. I have been needing a small DC test track and I think a better built version of this is in the future.

After that I did do a little scenery work along the front edges of the layout while running trains and listening to the radio so a quiet but good weekend.

Friday night bowling league is dead, but our team and another joined a 4 member mixed league for Friday night will start next week.

Major item I accomplished was to clean up the floor around the work bench and put everything in storage or on shelves to work on in the future. Managed to dull coat and assemble most of a GP35 that I have been working on except that I did not dull coat the hand rails yet. Also added detail parts to a GP40-2 that has been sitting incomplete for years, should get painted this week.

Got both sides decaled on a 40’ box and an ACF covered hopper, still need to do the ends. Also painted a pair of coal hoppers.

    Robert,
I like your Frisco car a lot. What brand of Archbars do you have on it?

This weekend I was able to finish the bridge project truss sides and propoed them up on the decking. I used Evergreen channels fir angle bracing. The CVM braces in the kit were extremely brittle.

Also got out the ITLA walk modules and abd planned my cuts and how that building will go together.

I have built 4 of these bridge kits in N scale and did the same for the same reason.

It’s still Monday and it’s an extended weekend for me, so this still counts: an 8 foot piece of backdrop was installed on one side of the peninsula. Once this side dries, I already have another piece for the opposite side ready when the glue dries on this side. (Probably tonight before bed time).

Finally starting to look like something!

Yep. Weekend evaporated. Gotta' love the Frisco. I like the dowel idea. Off and on I worked on the new drive link. Got the link to work Sunday afternoon/evening. Early Sunday I went to a park in another town to check on the amenities. I did this because this is the second year our family reunion has been cancelled. :( My idea was to change the venue to the outside and have an unofficial reunion. Always a good time for fried chicken. (y) As far as The Omega Scale Railway, I am glad the link has been improved and now I will continue with the bungalow. Porches need finishing as well as some details. Once again, barring "nappage" and procrastination , project should be done this week. Everyone be well and safe and have fun.

Later this morning I threw caution to the wind and glued a dowel in place to fill my crooked hole. Using this technique, the drill bit will sometimes want to "walk" to follow its old path of least resistance or wallow its way between the old route and the desired route. To avoid this, I think I'll throw together a supplemental table adjacent to my drill press so that I can clamp the leg in place on the drill press and keep everything level. Even if I mess up a small amount, I think it'll be better than a handheld drill try.

The dowel is nice and flat on both sides. I'll try my luck soon. The scuffed paint will be easily touched up.

Was still in catch up mode from the vacation. Threw some loads of vacation laundry in the washer and dryer, put away the travel bags. On Saturday ran to the produce store and grocery store. Sunday hit PetSmart and Target (to return something I bought while on vacation). Sunday I weeded four gardens. My back later reminded me of my age.

No modeling got done. Either no time or too tired.

    Thanks @Cjcrescent !

These are some Walthers trucks that you can get as a separate part. I don't have the part number handy, as they were spares in the parts drawer. I have ordered the Tahoe Model Works 5-ft wheelbase trucks with semi-scale wheels for the final version.

Well got my last 2 x 4 base painted and the adjustable feet put on it. Also, cut out a diorama piece to practice scenery and road making stuff. I procrastinated for month's, and really have no explanation why. Just sat in the garage for month's and I walked past it every day. Guess I am lazy :) Anyway it's in the climate controlled house now, so all is good. I don't know how people can stand the heat and cold for their layouts? But understand if that is the best you can do for your hobby.

I am blessed to be able to have room for my two tiny 2' x 4' bases/modules inside the house, and in my climate controlled room :)

Amen to that. My little train room is a bit larger than a walk in closet, just enough room for my HCD layout, along one wall, small students drawing table and a watchmakers bench along the other. It has central air, baseboard heat and two large windows. It's a nice cozy place.

Too bad most of my layout work this weekend was in the dungeon like cellar.

FRIDAY; I put in a few hours sorting donations at the pet food pantry. Friday afternoon I emptied my modeling benchtop organizer and took some measurements for extending it's height. After that I cleaned up around the cellar workbench.

SATURDAY; I decided not to spend much time on the riser and just threw together a mockup with three pieces of wood then organized my modeling bench. I'll revisit this at a later date.

I took both dogs for separate long walks. After lunch I started on the filler pieces for the HCD layout. Armstrong woodworking is a new endeavor for me. It took all afternoon to dimension one filler strip but I must admit it felt very therapeutic.

SUNDAY; I mowed and finished the filler pieces for my HCD layout. I didn't install them yet. As I was dry fitting them I came up with the idea to add perpendicular cleats at each end so I can secure the filler pieces with screws through the door ends after the layout halves are joined.
Sunday evening I felt a little tired when I got to the train room, so instead of moving organizers I just sat at my nice neat workbench and watched a couple airbrushing videos.

The unstructured time I was expecting for the weekend got structured. My son asked for help disposing of some unneeded furniture and housewares in preparation for an upcoming move. Wait times at the donation centers are still very long, so most of Saturday disappeared. Still had time to finish the steam dome.

    steam dome I 210816.JPG

Not happy with the result. The proportions are wrong. I will double check the measurements and see where it went wrong. Stay tuned for Rev II.

I did get to the Laser Cutter course tonight and now have access to that machine at the local Makerspace. Looking forward to trying it out soon.

Ran out of time to try soldering some pewter pieces. Maybe this week.

    Stay safe,
