All, At one point I considered building a pair of EMD's DH1 Locomotives in N - SCALE See photo . And when I went to google the EMD DH1 this popped up EMD DH1 - Wikipedia in May 1906. Have to love the Date at the end of the first sentence . This book -See second photo and page 130.. has same photo and a Build Date of 1951. Tom
Not a bad achievement for a corporation that wouldn't be founded for two years yet. I gave up trying to help make and keep Wikipedia accurate.
Wikipedia and accuracy can often be two different things. I even know of some people who have tried to contribute, and had their input changed back to the wrong information again. Then having someone pirate information and re-post it as being theirs has also happened to me....
I think TV's Jeopardy game show uses unreliable sources on its railroad questions. A few years ago they asked what the name was for people who maintained the tracks. Section Hand - WRONG. Gandy Dancer - WRONG. Lineman - RIGHT! Whaat?
Somewhere I still have the post card signed by "Alex Trebek", which I received in response to a letter sent. They had, and not for the first time, used the UP final spike and stated Promontory Point. (I used to watch that during dinner a lot, years ago.) My letter referred them to the SPHS, UPHS and John Bromley at UP in their PR department at that time. And stated that locaion was on the 1912 Lucin Cutoff, and not where the actual "final" spike was driven. BTW- Their reply was a lame excuse "apology". My interest level in that show at that point began to wane....
Many years ago I recall another Jeopardy railroad question that the show's research staff muffed so badly that they had to invite the Contestants back that answered it properly. The question asked which nationality of people most contributed to building the Union Pacific. The Jeopardy staff said Chinese, which of course was completely wrong. Irish was the corrected response. As the years have passed, I too have lost interest in the show. There seems to be a lot of questions about "pop culture" these days and other topics I have no interest in. Yet, perhaps a year ago they presented a category on NASA's race to the moon. I answered every question, yet all three players were nearly clueless on the topic. They need a Jeopardy For Baby Boomers.
All, Seriously wikipedia ! EMC, EMD wasn't in existence in 1906 . wikipedia and those who post on wikipedia need to start fact checking and do more historical research ! The photo here and caption clearly shows it as a End Cab Switcher and states A Build date of 1951. Tom
