Welcome back everyone. I hope your weekend went well and trains were part of it. Looks like the FreeMo boys were busy with a neat set up. Let's get started.

Saturday: I started out by painting the track on the two modules for the Athearn display. There is something therapeutic about a clean work bench, tools lined up and ready and a brand new kit on said work bench. With my podcast fired up, I set to work on structure kits. First was the Walthers Modern Concrete Warehouse background building. By lunch, I had the basic structure done. After lunch, I finished all the major sub assemblies and got them ready for paint. Painting will have to be next weekend. Next was the Versatile Modular Loading Docks by Pikestuff. What a great kit! I built up my team track and by 6:00pm had all my structures for the Athearn layout ready for paint. A trip to the local ice cream shop order was placed by Angela and so I finished my evening with a cool treat.

Sunday: My future father in law had been texting Angela all day Saturday as he wanted to go for a ride on the motorcycles. So Sunday, he met us for breakfast and we rode the motorcycles down to Casey IL to enjoy a light lunch and to see the sights. We rode back on IL 45 and saw lots of freight traffic. In the end, we rode 250 miles so we were tired! And like that, the weekend was gone but I feel good about getting so much done on Saturday.

So how about you? What did you get accomplished this past weekend? How was the FreeMo meet? Let us know! We'll assemble again on Friday the 27th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

Saturday: Installed another section of benchwork for the upper level. Also experimented with upper level lighting valence heights and settled on a 10” height. Finally settled on how to tackle the riser vs mini-shelf for the high line run to upper staging.

Sunday: Lazy morning just relaxing in the layout room. I did complete a couple of freight car projects and assembled an Accurail auto rack kit. Need to free up the workbench so I can build more turnouts!

Despite rain and oppressive heat and humidity, I managed to make good progress. Completed the train table legs with the addition of casters, cut the two HCDs to lesser size and cut the filler pieces to insert into the HCD ends. The filler pieces are dry fitted in the photo and only half inserted. With glue and hammer taps to fully seat them within the HCDs, all will be strong.

    Good morning all,

Weekend went about as planned. The smoke started clearing on Friday and by Sunday the air quality was clear. I did get the new DC test track finished and came up with a place to store it when not in use. Also changed the tempoary Unitrack east end staging to try out another configuration.

Managed to complete the decaling on a 70Ton Hopper Car and a 50' Exterior Post Boxcar, still need to dull coat and assemble the cars. Started decaling a GP40-2 but noted I left off some detail parts, so I will assemble, paint and install them before completing the engine, also need to paint and decal the number board inserts.

Worked on building a couple of 50' boxcars, some of which required a lot a disassembly and reassembly, see below:

I removed the poorly rendered underframe on the McKeen 50' ACF Boxcar kit and will install the Details West Underframe with the HydraCushion Detail.

Here is the car with the Details West HydraCushion underframe installed, I cut off the coupler pockets as they are difficult to maintain after the car is done and installed the proper Moloco Extended coupler pockets which can be accessed with the screws as shown, they are great items to equip your cars with.

Again, great results! (y) I am not quite where I want to be. I have done the chimney lower section. I need upper chimney and porch trim and yard details and then if I don't think of something else I will be finished. All be safe. :D

I finally had a chance to vacuum out the car and give the interior a good cleaning. Did a few little chores around the house over the weekend.

I began building the Walthers Passenger Platform kit. I finished two platforms and am about halfway done the other two. I have some painting touch-ups to do on all four and add some decals to signs.

Did some kitbashing and painting this weekend - the Jersey barriers are cast resin and with 2 coats of WS Concrete paint they look pretty good. The claw grabber truck is a kitbash on a CMW cab that I started about 3 years ago for a challenge on another forum. it's a riff on a truck that used to drive around Baton Rouge once a month loading brush and other bulk trash into dump trucks from public works.

I didn't do any work on the RS3M scratch/bash or the GP9M #7324 parked in the background in the photo below, but I did manage to paint and decal my "frankensteined" GP9 #1802. This was a former SP unit that was purchased by the P&W, then sold to the Housatonic RR. The Housatonic kept it in P&W colors. I still need to add the white stenciled HRRC reporting marks under the cab numbers and dull coat the unit. The short center sill stripe is crooked too, so I will have to replace that. Here it is parked outside of the Housatonic RR's shop in Canaan, CT.

Greetings all. Late to the party today. Busy day at work and time, as it were, flew by. This weekend I spent 2 days working the ITLA industrial module project. For those that haven't tried ITLA system, I recommend it. A little patience can yield good results. I was very impressed at how "precision fit" the parts (laser cut) fit and the overall quality.

Pictures sort of walk through the process from laying out, cutting, pressing in glass, dry-fitting at the layout and the progress of painting. I am about 90% done w/ the building. A couple of hours will knock it out. A grain drying machine and distribution bin will sit on the roof. I have those kits sitting in my workshop (Walthers). This facility will serve the C&C dog treat factory, ie, supplying the grain.

    Great weekend starting Thursday.

The Evanston, WY Free-moN operations meet was a blast. Very successful! 293 total modules were crammed into 15,000 sq feet.

Thursday was set up day. 9 was allowed for setup. hours to set up. Trains were running by 6 pm. We started setting up at 7:30 am.

Friday was running of trains and Friday night was Ops. There was a 15 train traffic jam on one side Friday morning. Friday night the dispatchers kept things moving. (Yes I was one of them)

Saturday was trains running and clinics throughout the day.

Sunday trains in the morning and tear down at 3 pm. Everything was packed up amd out of the building by 6 pm.

Plans are to hold another event like this in 2024.

FRIDAY; I finished the filler pieces for my hollow core door rip project.Overall it went well but it was a PITA. I Didn't damage any of the track. Part of the cut was right up against the Unitrak roadbed.

    SATURDAY;
I started phase one of my workbench reconfiguration. Moving stuff like a shell game to make room to move my small student drawing table to the opposite end of the room. It is heavy.

Sunday I finished getting all the drawing table drawers and plastic drawers moved. Then I decided I might as well keep going and move my watchmakers bench while I'm at it.

I've got most of my tools relocated, still alot of small loose stuff to go through. Also need to fish all the electrical cords to lamps chargers ect.

This reconfiguration gives me a lot more room in front of the layout.

Monday; Put up the backdrop. (Thanks Bremner!) Moved my layout back onto the shelves in the train room.

    It was a great weekend.

Friday: Got some primer on the modified Delta trailing truck sideframe. You can see the modification I made to the GHQ casting. Much better match to UP 2295's truck.

Saturday: Soccer teams went 3 for 3 with two late comeback wins. There was celebratory bacon!

Sunday: Assembled the casting overlays to the Kato trailing truck. There will need to be some detail painting and weathering to disguise the "invisible" parts.

I updated the first steam dome drawings. Also created a spreadsheet of XY coordinates for the mill to cut the flanged curve. Photos when it gets done.

Monday Bonus: Got a chance to test the laser cutter.
    driver test 210823.jpg

Needs work! Good news is the overall diameter and hub/eccentric opening match the Kato driver very well. Need to work on laser settings, among other things.

    Stay safe,

Not a lot accomplished. Fiddled around getting a car kit started. Painted another car, now it is sitting there awaiting trucks and couplers. The filter in my spray booth was getting clogged, so changed that and also did a bit of cleaning. Ready to go for the next project. Couldn't find a detail part, so after a fruitless search, gave up on that idea, for now.

Mostly using a fly cutter to create telecom satellite dishes and salvaging various electronics from circuit cards so I can cast a few bashed equipment items.
