Well that is it. August is about over and September is right around the corner. I hope September allows me to shut the AC down for a few days, I'm ready for cooler weather. Let's see how we all did.

Saturday: As planned and as accomplished. I finished the construction phase of the two buildings for the Athearn Display. By noon, I was painting both a nice "boring" almond color to match the warehouse colors I see around Central Illinois. Unfortunately, the paint is taking forever to dry, no doubt due to the 96% humidity. Even as this morning, both buildings are still ever so slightly tacky and not in your Auntie Grizelda in a bright floral dress tacky! I finished by painting all the doors a blue that matches the corporate colors and called it a day.

Sunday: I knew we were going to town so I hurried and got up and started by drawing out the areas for pavement. I use the Lance Mindheim method of pavement, .060 plastic sheet, primer and tan paint and inda Ink. By noon, I had the pavement done for one side of the module. Ang and I then spent some time together by picking up some parts for my motorcycle then going to a Back the Blue rally. We had some BBQ for dinner then came home. I was hoping to install the doors into the two warehouses but the buildings were still to tacky...RATS. So we took it easy and just like that, the weekend was over.

So what about you? What did you accomplish? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday, September 3rd to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

    Good mornin Y'all,

    My weekend went well.
Decaling is pretty much done on the F7's - so, a bit of detail painting and they will be ready for a clear coat.

Hope Y'all had a great weekend,
    Wolf

Greetings. Spent most of the weekend dealing with the layers of trim, weathering, and securing a roof on the grain drop-off building. Still more to do with bins and elevator, but this portion is mostly done. Overall, I like the ITLA kit.

@Jim Wiggin Nice to see you!
This past weekend? Um, Progress on the first two 'sections' of the 4 section layout.
First 'mock up' placeholder building constructed. It's reported to be an export terminal for 'Mystrium'
I need to get paint for the foam this week.

Good morning from sunny and hot Northeast Ohio!

Bowling was not very good Friday, had to bowl 6 games (3 were a makeup from the first week we missed). Scores were not good and I was having trouble with spares also.

Saturday, I helped with the lane certification of a bowling alley, we cancelled our club meeting as it was so hot and the building is not air conditioned, we were supposed to get it but with the Historical Society closed for the last year and a half, they did not generate the funds to air condition the building we rent. Hopefully next year but doubtful as they will not have their fall festival or Christmas festival due to the latest outbreak. I did manage to work on some decaling on a couple of 50' boxcars and worked on building an Eastern Car Works N&W H2a Hopper.

Sunday, dud laundry and packed for our upcoming trip to Colorado. Also painted a 23,000 Gallon Tank car along with some boxcar roofs and ends. Continued decaling the boxcars and assembling the hopper car kit.

The Mississippi coast is windblown and wet but Ida largely spared us. CSX is already clearing the main behind the house.

Covid is waning in our household.

I spent a big chunk of yesterday modeling, but am not yet organized enough to share.

New Orleans and points south and west are not doing well. They will need a lot of love, support and patience.

Shampooed all the rugs in the house. Other than that nothing really important got done around the house.

I finished the passenger station platforms. I became working on coloring the mortar lines on the Union Station kit.

Really did not get much done on the layout this weekend. It was hot and the air quality was marginal due to the fires so stayed in the house much of the time with the air conditioning. I think by next summer I will invest in one of those portable units for the train room. I did track down a problem I had been having with locos stalling in the Sparks yard. Seems I overlooked 1 frog feeder when I rebuilt it last year and it had been getting power through the points until recently. Got the feeder dropped but still need to connect it.

Over the past couple of weeks I have also been working on replacing the chemical toilet with a flush toilet in our travel trailer. This required some modification to the waste plumbing under the trailer. I was able to buy short 2ft lengths of ABS pipe and had some left over. These scraps may someday become material for N scale storage tanks, tunnel portal roofs, or something else my imagination can come up with.

Everyone try to stay safe, my thoughts go out to those suffering on the Gulf Coast, and those effected by all the fires.

Interesting posts. It seems like folks are inching forward. We are expecting torrential rain here. I hope all remain safe. So far I am not inching but millimetering forward. I am still fiddling with porch trim. Next will be fiddling with front sidewalk. I did enjoy my youngest grandson's birthday outing Sunday at a bowling alley. But this week will be some progress and hopefully a finish on the bungalow. Have a great week! :D

Another weekend of progress, largely spent working on odds and ends.

Added decals to a hopper I had sitting on the workbench for several months. Finished repairs on an Athearn covered hopper that had a coupler box broken off (nothing to glue new one to), had been set aside 4-5 years until Saturday!

Removed all old ballast from the top of the viaduct, ready for roadbed and track after the backdrop is painted.

Installed some upper level lighting valence brackets and compared paint colors for the fascia.

Oh and first thing this morning, I started patching out some more hoppers for the home road.

High summertime heat and humidity stopped progress on my benchwork, so I stayed inside planning my next step of adding fascia around the perimeter of the two tables. I want to carefully think all of this through, so that I don't mess up and find myself short on wood.

Ventured across town to the Atlanta Train Show. While others who attended may have done well, I was disappointed. I came home with 3 souvenirs. #1 was the card for the next show that they handed me when I paid the $10 admission fee, #2 was the receipt for the $5 parking fee, and #3 was the $10 receipt for gas after the 110 mile round trip. Your experience may have varied.

Saturday evening I did install the last of the metal wheels I had on hand. Sunday I spent running a couple of errands and then helping get the bathroom ready for some work we need to get done.

Hope you all have a great week!!!!!!

At least the parking was less than the show admission, it's usually the other way around at most shows we've had in my area.

It was another four day weekend here.
Not much modeling. I did accomplish quite a bit on the workbench reconfiguration.

THURSDAY; In the morning I was able to work on the workbench reconfiguration a little more, then we loaded the car and the boys (our dogs), and headed up North to Bradford County Pa.
Along the PA Turnpike NE extension we noticed the leaves had began to change on a few trees.

FRIDAY; Mowing and cabin maintenance. My sister arrived Friday after dinner.

SATURDAY; We took a ride to Hillsgrove Pa, once the home of a large tannery and had lunch at McCarty Mercantile. I enjoyed an awesome Rueben and home fries. The store building dates back to the days of the tannery.

The just removed, old mechanical gas pumps worked until recently. They were from pre $1.00 per gallon days and had the right hand wheel converted to fractions.

After McCartys we stopped for ice cream on our way to Worlds End State Park. As children my sister and I spent many summer days swimming at the parks swimming area, in the always chilly Loyalsock Creek.

After dinner I was able to get one boxcar end glued on before I was invited to watch a movie with my wife and sister.

SUNDAY; Loaded up the car and the boys and traveled home. We arrived home early, so, I was able to work on my workbench reconfiguration a little more.

MONDAY I was screwing a taller back rail on the watchmakers bench when I dropped my ratcheting screwdriver and it landed in the baseboard heating. I could not retrieve it so I wound up emptying the bench again in order to move it and retrieve the screwdriver.

While I had access to the back of the bench I strung a vaccum hose along the back to use as part of a mini dust collection system. I also mounted a semi concealed outlet strip to help hide the myriad of cords for the usual 110v workbench needs.

I worked late into the night to get the workbench back in place and almost everything powered up. All that's left is to cut a few mounting blocks for my foot pedal controlled outlets and mount a rod for hanging a flex shaft.

    So much for KISS!

You probably have the book, but if not, check out the softcover Wood Chemical Industry In The Delaware Valley by Myers, c. 1986. All kinds of neat industrial archeology there.

I believe I do have it. Does the cover have an images showing signposts of towns named for the wood chemical industry?
I think I'll dig it out.

Nothing accomplished. Saturday morning I had a slight issue with excess moisture. As a result, spent my time cleaning up and drying. Lost several RR and model RR books. Almost all of my N Scale Magazine collection is destroyed. (Fortunately the NSR batch is OK.) A bunch of books on antique and collectible glasswares, plus a few more about ferryboats, ruined. A couple of others on different subjects, very sadly gone. A shelving unit collapsed and trashed.

 Oh well. Maybe next weekend.
