I am modeling a couple box cars (HO) that were stenciled QOCX, (Quaker Oates Co) in the 1970-1990s, These are the Baby Blue boxcars. My question is related to the stencils on the car "WHEN EMPTY RETURN TO ?????????? VIA NEAREST ???? AGENT". Which RR(s) served these mills in Cedar Rapids Iowa? Or am I all wrong, maybe their mills weren't even at this location. Thanks in advance for any help and or advise. Tom
Interesting. I'm going to have to try to make a couple in N-Scale. My wife eats a lot of it and I will be using the smaller package / cylinder on the layout as a skyscraper. I can put headquarters on the top floor.
If you zoom in on the following photo, the stenciling next to the door says "WHEN EMPTY RETURN TO QUAKER OATS CO CEDAR RAPIDS IA" Can't quite make out of there is any punctuation. http://s3.amazonaws.com/rrpa_photos/95355/56_QOCX127.JPG
Thanks for the comments guys, and thanks for the information too. Kurt I think what we see in the car is the movable bulkheads, or load dividers. The door has a stencil on it that reads CLOSE AND LOCK BULKHEADS AND DOORS BEFORE MOVING CAR. Im gonna try and come up with some decals for this.
I managed to get a couple HO cars in the works. The QOCX 188,189. Still with the shop trucks under them with a fresh clear coat to seal the decals. I got the reporting marks a bit too high but im not doing them over LOL. Now a dull coat and some weathering.
