Over on "another network" I've received word of an N Scaler getting scammed by a "seller" from Kentucky. This alleged seller has a group of items "available," takes the money and never delivers. As a follow up, we've learned that several others have been scammed in the same manner by the same "person." Three points to make: 1) If you see the photo shown here, run, do not walk, away. This same picture has been used on several occasions with the same result: take money, send nothing. 2) Unless you really, really, really know the seller, do not use a payment method without buyer protection. This would be a credit card or Paypal Goods and Services only. Paypal Friends and Family does not offer protection against bad deals. 3) And, of course, be careful of the venues you use. We are well over 400 pages of "eBay Humor" to be sure but it is relatively safer than the Wild Wild West "elsewhere." And don't forget the Trainboard Marketplace! This has been a public service announcement. We now return you to N Scale Trains, already in progress... [Edit note: Alleged name of individual has been removed.]
Thank you for the heads-up George. I see similar crimes on automotive forums. As a response, some forums are insisting that a Member establish a certain number of posts and time period of membership before he/she can sell things. Not an absolute fix for the problem, but it could deter some fast-buck felons.
