Yes sir, John drew this concept in on a sketch he did just about the time he was moving rom Irving Street to Cielo Vista Terrace. He never identified his actual connection. So I might take a liberty and take a stab at it. There is a stone bridge to nowhere up on cold shoulder. If you look close.. Randy
George, many of the European railroads all seem to have some many versions of those impressive looking stone arch bridges. You can see them in many movies, such as Von Ryan's Express or even a quick glimpse of the Landwasser Viaduct in the second Equalizer movie with Denzell Washington. John had a version like this near what he called Cold Shoulder... it was never usable.... and I would have to say it is the only possible connection that could be considered for his SP interchange. https://www.google.com/search?q=fam...bWfAAQE&sclient=img&ei=SZlXYY_pDoL8tAWx5JzICQ
Ken, now that's just great.. ! John made modeling madmen out of so many of us! His work was incredibly detailed and believable but on such a grand scale that it was completely irresistible to anyone with any talent and any skill. I wonder just how many super tall trestles and deep canyons were created in full scenic detail after many of us saw the published photo's of his Ryan Gulch Trestle back in the late 1950's. Randy
I was impressed by his taking scenery to the floor. That created an even greater feeling of spectacular height.
In John's case he had bushes that grew to about 6' high all the way around the front and sides of his house. They eventually reached out all the way to the road so there was just enough room to park a car there half off the street. I have had some hilarious stories from one of the sons of a local man who knew John well. John used to let the ivy vines grow around the garage door and would only begrudgingly cut them when his car bumper would get caught in them and begin pulling them off the house. He said John drove to their house (about a mile down the road) with a huge clump of vines tagging along about 20' long behind his car one day. He never bought a trimmer of his own. Refused to invest in lawn care equipment of any kind. But would borrow this mans several times a year. Randy
If you go to John’s house on Google maps and select the street view, the front yard is still planted.
