I'm sure you all have seen pictures of the UP SD-70 that was totally graffitied in the Arizona desert. A group of people painted it, I think in one night. I have posted some in progress shots of my project in the "workbench" thread. Finally completed, so here is my version. I did not have an SD-70 to work with so I selected a KATO SD-90/43 in SLRG paint that I never cared for. The loco has a silent TCS K2D4 decoder. I sprayed, rattle can, with school bus yellow and hand applied, obviously, the stripes with ultra fine Sharpie permanent marker. I am happy with it but would I do something different next time, yes. And lastly, what an ominous site at a RR crossing. Folks would still run the gates? ? ? I need to blacken out the # boards and add couplers. Note no reference to the UP, in fact it is my home road CD&WJV loco. Thanks for looking. Stay well, Carl
Geezus Carl, you scared the beegeezus out of me when I click on this thread! Excellent job and just in time for Halloween!
Very cool! Remind me....did the prototype unit make any revenue runs before it was repainted? If so, any as the lead unit?
t-fan, No it never made any revenue runs. The railroad took it out of the desert and had it sprayed with grey primer immediately after they found it. C
Not much into graffiti but that one was kinda cool like the 'pumpkin car'. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qwY8DPWX2...raffiti+Grande+Macon+Georgia+NS+Rail+Yard.JPG
The 1:1 version being painted.... I usually am mad to see railroad equipment painted with graffiti, but this guy did this in one night. That's impressive!
In an alternate universe graffiti artists go out all night and correct tired and damaged paintwork ...... SF warbonnets and blood nosed SP tunnel motors everywhere !
It has been a while but I have created a special horn for this beast : Here is a 2 minute Y-T video that demonstrates the additional special horn. I created the wav. file from internet, loaded it into the ESU sound project S0811, replaced the "coupler" noise with this noise and mapped it to f3. I don't have the decoder as yet but will use the new LS V5 nano with sugar cube speaker. This special noise shall be used for extraordinary times like people or vehicles on the tracks. Be well ! !
From the video it looks like they had a good size crew painting that engine. I visited their website and they have some questionable values but still nonetheless it's pretty cool.
