These little outfit carts and speeders are largely forgotten on the railroad today, replaced by hi-rail trucks and modern equipment. Here's a small selection of MOW equipment from Colorado RR Museum.

A couple of SD70ACe's starting a coal load, And a trio of GE's fouling the main while switching their train,
From July 1977 at Red Bank, NJ, three former CNJ RS-3s switch a freight. It was all CR by then. I can't remember what color the units were. At the time, I think red, blue and black could be found. The CNJ's forces at their Communipaw Shop had a reputation for excellence that kept aged units in good order.
B&M also had extended height hoppers converted from Class 7300 3-bay hoppers built in 1949. They were assigned out of Woodsville, NH for woodchip service to the paper mills in Gorham and Berlin, NH.
Thanks for sharing this-it is nice to see the top of locos and rolling stock from time to time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A pair of BNSF (ex Santa Fe) GP's depart BNSF's East Thomas Yard to head northeast across Birmingham AL to deliver a transfer to NS Norris Yard in Irondale AL - June 2008
I would venture that this picture was taken at the old storage yard in Leesport, PA. The collection has been moved to the RCT&HS museum site in Hamburg. At this time I believe the museum is only open on Saturdays.
Thanks Sepp, that sounds about right on the location. It was one of those I was lost and found the whole day type of days.
Reading's cab units looked great I think. Durable black, but with green and gold striping to provide a classic look. [Photo by Bob Krone]
I'm not sure. I was trackside there for an afternoon while on summer vacation, my Aunt having dropped me off while she went shopping. I wish I'd have thought to check Model Railroader's hobby shop listings.
I was blessed by our family vacations east to NJ in the '70s. When my mother and Aunt would go shopping, I'd be dropped off somewhere along the way for several hours, including Hopewell, Princeton Junction and Red Bank. Plus the Black River & Western was nearby my my Aunt's home, along with a small hobby shop. Couldn't get much better for a railfan teen on summer break.
