I know there are a few CS units which slip through my area. But they never seem to be around when I am, or pass through at night. I've shared this one previously. Almost fifteen years ago now, was this westward train through Whitefish, Montana:
From 10/28/20, local turn F765 has completed swapping cars at CSX's yard in Cayce, SC and has begun its run back to Lugoff, SC. NS owns the other track.
This video highlights that there is a 'small porch' on the trailing end of the CSX F40PH's - I have never noticed these 'porches' on these locomotives when they were numbered in the 9990 series or when the engines were in Amtrak form.
Thanks for a very interesting video. CSX has done an excellent job with the color scheme. Harkens back to the glory days of passenger service. Like you, I didn't remember the porches when the F40PHs were in Amtrak service. Though they definitely were there according to this photo.
It does look like the porch has always been there - the Amtrak & former CSX paint schemes did their best camouflage its existence. With CSX highlighting the hand rails for safety reasons the existence of the 'porch' has also been highlighted.
Eastbound across Gassman Coulee on 9 May 20 is a fertilizer train behind solid CSX power and heritage hoppers.
Great paint scheme. Very B&O in nature. I sure have never looked closely at such units when in Amtrak ownership. Just viewed at a couple of my photos and there it is, a porch and railing.
Found yesterday in the shadows at Florence, SC was CSX "Spongebob Squarecab" 4293 and a similar graduate working the yard.
