Glad to help with the information anytime I can. Good idea about printing the numbers on paper. I need to update my printer as the one I have which still works great is a 15+ year old laserjet. Need better resolution for what you are talking about. Might be time to get one as I have a couple more locos that need the same treatment. Does the gallery glass shrink or deform as it dries? I do a lot of kitbashing for model cars and such so the number plates were pretty easy for me but anytime there is an opportunity to save time and effort to get the same result I am all ears.
Out on the garage work bench I have fabricating some slide switch mounting brackets from aluminum channel. These will be used with turnouts on the section of the my home layout that I am currently working on.
Everything...everything is on my workbench. And with company coming to visit this weekend I now have to try to organize it (which is why everything is currently out in an attempt to organize it) by Sunday. The problem is there is nowhere to try and organize it since I have no spare space that isn't already covered by everything that is out. So it looks like I will be trying to do something with my trains this weekend. Where exactly did all these trains come from and what are they doing scattered all over the place. I have dozens of freight cars that have been disassembled for painting and decals that are running free without underframes, trucks, and a box that I need to try and match together. So the good news is a weekend of nothing but trains, but the bad news is that I can't PLAY with them...cannot get distracted by pretty, pretty trains or shiny rail...oooooh, so shiny!
Well my Japanese ferry boats arrived. Got two different ones so starting with the largest. Right away I found I have to widen my ferry slip in the harbor and already done just needing some dress up now. The Ferries are both by Kofu and are heavy cad stock and heavy paper, The one featured is the model 3000 and the other is a model 2000. The previous ferries that I scratched all came out too big and bulky and I had waited for two years for this product to be restocked. The new ferry in front of the old ferry pictured will be smaller yet a little wider. Already have 12 pieces laminated on. 100_1523-3 by John Moore posted Dec 16, 2021 at 2:56 PM
Finished the first ferry from a paper kit. I added the ladders, painted brass ones, added twin exhaust stacks, and built the radar from styrene and some radar metal etchings. I also had to build the hull up higher to match up with the existing ferry slip in the harbor. This was done by simply adding two more layers of thick card stock to the hull bottom. Shown here with the current ferry which is a poor fit for my harbor which will be salvaged for parts and then scrapped. 100_1527-2 by John Moore posted Dec 18, 2021 at 5:41 PM 100_1528-3 by John Moore posted Dec 18, 2021 at 5:41 PM
So last night I had a loop of track set up to test some of my new acquisitions. (Video in my channel later) and decided to take note of which engines I need decoders for. Now I am going to get a list of the decoders needed and start making an order list. My new TGV Thalys has a pair on the way so that is going to be my next actual workbench project.
This Atlas SD24 might be the last of my sound updates. I didn't go fancy on the lighting other than adding a beacon to the roof. No frame milling required but I had to stuff the 8x12mm speaker with enclosure into the cab. The sbs4dcc speaker/enclosure was a near perfect fit in that area. I still had to run pico LED's directly to the light lenses for and aft since I was going to have to remove the stock lights off the DC board to make room for the electronics. It went together exactly as planned so a pretty straight forward installation. All lights working and it makes sound so now just waiting for the sound file to load into the decoder.
So the last couple of days gave me a workbench full of DCC. I finally got around to giving all my trains (except 1) a decoder check and made a file for them in my JMRI. Some of my accessory type decoders didn’t want to read, I’m not sure why but they do work which is important. Now I have about 8 or 9 that need decoders. A couple are imports and there are no decoders listed for them… Does anyone know of a drop in type decoder for the following trains. Tomix Shinkansen Type 500 (Hello Kitty train) Kato HB-E300 I also have some older Kato and Tomix commuter trains that I already know will not have a drop in option.
Well it's a TV Tray being used as a Workbench right now Finally after years I got the roof cut to fit, and painted Grey ( only took like 15 years ) and also the loading dock is Grey now and no longer black Now to cut the roof for the office and paint it that comes with this set. Gonna paint the rest of the windows White. It's looks bad close up but fine at a regular distance from me. No one will ever know, unless I take a closeup photo Now I need dock workers, it always something? It looks rough, but I might keep it that way. have to add the 3D printed HVAC stuff too and of course at least one helipad, and helicopter. We are Rich warehouse owners apparently with our own private helicopter. As @mtntrainman said. "That's my story and I am sticking too it". I'm a mogul on my layout! See looks fine from a distance?
I have that same warehouse. What I found out is when trucks are backed up to the dock...the dock hits midway on the back of the trucks ! . . I just cut about 5 layers of bricks from all the way around the bottom of the warehouse yesterday. Now the backs of the trucks are a lot closer to being level with the dock. Just something to think about. .
Yeah when I use it with a tractor trailer it's a little low, but I don't even notice it. Although mine is being used as an Unloading dock next to the tracks, for unloading the boxcars and such. The track is just a hair higher but I don't care Won't even notice loading dock until the rolling stock pulls away from it. What did you do with the Office piece? I have the Transfer Kit, I think?
The office on mine is just butted up against the end of the warehouse. I glued a cigar tube...cap down...behind it to make a chimney. . . The warehouse (in the back) was an old 'fertilizer and herbicide' manufacturing plant in a pevious life in my little world... .
Already major painting done and 3D printed HVAC and of course the helipad with helicopter now on there. I have this kit forever, and now finally did something to it after all these years Me like it so far, more details needed down the road, maybe a ladder to the roof, some more 3D printed items like maybe vents and such. But coming along at least! I might need to shorten HVAC to make more room for the helicopter once I get people to go on the roof one day! Woodland Scenics even have a Roof Tar worker ( is that correct ), set, me thinks? As I said from a distance it looks much better. My work is not meant for closeups. Shoot I forgot to paint the rest of the windows white, another day. Needs signs on it, oops and I forgot the Miller Engineering Power & Light sign too, rats
I think it looks great !! Those helicopter pilots better be able to land past those AC components. They are highly skilled.
And, if the helo is going to land on the roof, there ought to be stairs or an elevator so the passengers can get to it. Just a thought. Sent from my SM-A716U using Tapatalk
