The big beast is in port!

The dockside lifebelts were fiddly. The abandoned loco shed is proving to be a bit vulnerable being that close to the baseboard edge

    more soon

So the Destroyer is a Russian 'Sovremeny' class destroyer finished as 755 'Osmotritelnny'. This is a huge 1/200th scale kit by Trumpeter ( I know it is slightly overscale for Z but, hey, boats are big!)

Assembling it took many weeks, there are a lot of bits and things like the chopper were a real challenge but it was highly enjoyable. It was sat in one of my all time favourite model shops and kept calling everytime I walked past! Cost me about £72 if memory serves me correctly

I've still got all the etched brass handrails to fit and some judicious weathering

Far, far too tempting are some of the other boat kits they do. And try and picture how big they are going to turn out

    HMS Nelson
    HMS Rodney
    HMS Nelson

    USS Arizona
    USS Iowa
    USS Yorktown
    USS Enterprise
    USS Missouri

    Gneisenau
    Scharnhorst
    Bismark

    and not forgetting RMS Titanic

The Enterprise is 1427 mm long about 56 inches and has over 1130 bits to assemble

    Soooo tempting!

    Kev,

Impressive! I can't wait to see it weathered with railing. Are you going to install all the dock lines and the gangway?

So I'm getting a little bit uncomfortable with the situation in Ukraine at the moment. If it does kick off I'll have no option but to suspend posts about Arkaengel while the whole of Europe holds it's breath. Wouldn't seem right in the circumstances.

    But until then

Kilo class complete and will be 'put in the water' at the weekend. Pics to follow

Meanwhile I was looking at the TE3 again, The protoype was alright but the rear coupler box sticks out the back of the unit making close coupling tricky. My mind drifted to a pair of HST 125 power cars lurking in the U.KZ stock boxes

These were resin castings, Quite crude and underscale length. Ivan has done a scale length 3D one on shapeways printed in FUD so these were redundant. Might the chassis be a better fit

Still only four axles but looked promising so the next pair of Atlas bodies went under the knife and got finished in the green livery with white stripes seen in the protoype above. Still waiting for flush glazing in the side windows the lead loco has the slot cut for the Buckeye coupling and the rear for a magnetic coupler
    [IMG]

the inner truck of each truck still retains the Marklin coupler and I can live with that gap.

seen with the blue one behind and the two converted baggage cars. need to decide on a coupler height. rear coach is missing a shim hence it looks a bit down on one end

A slab of lead above each chassis and these two have been trundling around the test track all night

    Hopefully more soon

Funny thing happened to me yesterday as I was traveling between my two jobs. I found a hobby shop in Tucson, Arizona that just so happen to have the German Bismark on the shelf!!! The box was huge. There were several other large boxes on the shelves but those all stated 1/350 and 1/700 scales. I would like to have seen the Enterprise! These guys had a nice selection of "G" track and lots of modern "N" on the shelves while dabbling in other scales. Unfortunately no "Z". I won't lie to you guys, I was salivating in the model isle. Yup!!!!!

It's a pity to hear that. Most of people here in Russia are against the war - they want to leave peacefully a normall life, working, doing sports, enjoying hobbies like model railroading. But some mad politicians want war just because they are so obsessed with the absolute power they have and they can do everything.

If one of the Adminstrators woulod suspend or remove this thread I would be grateful

    regards
