I have a Kato N scale SD40-2 loco that, like all their SD40-2's, has a low hood. I want to make the loco a Southern Rwy, but they all had high hoods. Does anyone know if any manufacturer makes a high hood SD40-2 in N scale? If not, perhaps someone makes a high hood detail part that I can fit onto the loco. I've searched online but cannot find any high hood parts. HELP!!! Hmm... I bet an F7A nose would look good on an SD40-2 loco...
I'm on a limited train budget, and Broadway Limited Imports is out of my budget LOL. Maybe I can paint my low nose SD40-2 to be an L&N loco. Southern and L&N both served New Orleans, which I'm modeling. Now to find L&N diesel loco decals that are in stock somewhere. Hmm... Kiz can barely pay my banana bill...
Ahhhh... ahhhh... I just noticed I have a Kato SD40 instead of the SD40-2! The SD40 is 3' shorter, or thereabouts! Ahhhhh... what am I gonna do? Ahhhh... Hmm... have yourself committed to a mental institution...?

InterMountain produced High Hood SOU SD-40-2s in 2017. If you'd be happy with different models, Atlas did SOU High Hood GP-38s in 2001, GP-38-2s in 2016 and SD-35s in 1999, 2006 and 2015.
You could swap shells if Atlas made an SD40-2 in standard DC in any other scheme. I’ve had success with swapping Atlas GP40 and GP30 shells from older models from the 90s and early 00s with those made more recently. It would be a little more money initially to buy this new one and a donor w/o sound and DCC, but you could then try and sell the leftovers to recoup some of what you spent. I usually check out Spookshow before embarking on this type of thing, and I’m not familiar with doing it for an Atlas SD40-2; I’ve done it with Kato SD45s, and Atlas Geeps.
