I just purchased a new MRC 2-6-0 off of Ebay. The engine runs rather slow at full transformer power and the front trucks derail from lack of any spring preload. I can either return the engine to the seller, return to MRC for repair myself. If I decide to repair myself, any suggestions on how to go about it?

These models were introduced in 2017 and with Model Power having been bought by Model Rectifier, be sure they still service them or that parts are available. Looks like you'll at least need a #60 Lead Truck Tension Spring.

Good luck! Some. If not all, of Model Power was spun off from MRC to Lionel.
So far only the O and some HO items have been cataloged and no mention has been made any plans for the N Scale tooling in China and Korea. The structures were decent Pola-level kits and some of them might reappear from other importers.
The Chinese tooling for the most part copied other brand “Trainman” level cars and with the exception of some Canadian cars they never got any prototypical paint and lettering. The Lima and Minitrix passenger cars were poorer copies of the originals. The steam and diesels were progressively improved but they would need serious retooling and upgrades to justify reintroduction into today’s market.

You can also try checking the gauge on the wheels even without a spring they shouldn’t be derailing on Unitrack curves.

My engine does not have a tension spring. I might be able to slide one in. Considering that Model Power sold out I will inquire about parts. I intend to check the front truck gauge.
