Welcome back to the gateway to the weekend! And welcome March! We are in the last few weeks of winter and I'm looking forward to getting on the road and going to train shows again. A lot of us had a busy weekend in our shops and on our layouts, let's see if we can do it again. Saturday: After a busy and long week, I'm looking forward to some garage time. It is supposed to be 70 degrees here tomorrow, a high we have not seen since October or November, so I want to fire up the table saw. I'm sure I'll spend a bit of time picking up the yard as well and generally enjoy being outside again. Sunday: I'm hoping to start laying track on the N scale shadowbox layout. I have all the track I need and I'm looking forward to getting that layout going. Along with the layout, I plan to work on my YouTube channel and have the layout as the main topic. Other domestic duties may work its way in, but nothing is written in stone, other than recover from a long work week. So how about you? What do you have planned this weekend in the workshop, on the layout or modules? Let us know. We'll return on Monday the 7th to see how we all did. Until then, have a great weekend, be safe, stay healthy and as always... High Greens!
Happy Friday Y'all -- TGIF I'm with @Grey One -- very murky indeed After getting our tax info together and hopefully sent off to our "Guy" -- I will be sitting at my work desk and see what catches my fancy. Hopefully get a troublesome Cab Forward back in service. See Ya'll on the other side - Y'all have a great weekend, Wolf
Good morning from mostly sunny and cold Northeast Ohio! Wolf, got my refund back this week, I was amazed, they changed the rules on Earned Income Credit, and since I only worked part of last year I qualified for the EIC, well it makes up for the years I was working and collecting Social Security and my tax ballooned up. Well, tonight is bowling so I may not get anything done today/ Saturday is running trains at the club but I will be working on things in the evening and on Sunday, here are some projects I will be continuing work on along with some decaling. Some things I am working on, a Model Power Sharknose, where I removed the cast on grabs and have installed some of the replacements, also added lift rings and drilled the holes for the inductive radio system of the PRR. Kato GP35 that will be for the Ann Arbor, added the lift rings and the cutout for the nose mounted bell, need to add the signal lights on the low nose and grab irons. Another Tichy Panel Side Covered Hopper kit, got most of the brake gear added, still need to add the piping from the air resivoir to the ABD valve and then install the end, then the grabs and rest of the detail parts. Murky must be the new pandemic! I've got the same thing here. I've been hornswoggled with work so much this week I haven't thought about modeling much. Not sure what the heck I'll be doing but there will be modeling involved. Guess I'll figure that out early tomorrow morning while standing in the layout room and staring into my "murky" cup of coffee. I'll also be watching the ACC Women's basketball tournament. [Rabbits Foot] Hopefully, NC State can get their 3rd championship in a row and I'll be watching through Sunday. [/Rabbits Foot] Enjoy the weekend all!
I hope to finish a bit of scenery around the Kimberly Clark plant on my N-scale Housatonic layout and will be experimenting with making solar panels for the roof of the Becton Dickenson Plant in Canaan. These will be small projects as there won't be much layout time again this weekend. Proto and model photos for reference. Solar panels need to be fabricated and installed. Good morning all, As I have gone about as far as I can right now on the section of the layout that I have been working on, I have set it aside and am going to start working on the smaller section that going to be right next to it. The bench work and cork roadbed was completed last fall. The plan this weekend is to get some land contours and bridge abutments started, we'll see on Monday how far I get.
Just a little more to do and my latest HOn30 caboose project will be done. Liking how this is going, so am contemplating another just like it. Or, they are now offering a side door/LCL version. Hmmmm. Didn't get to my modules last weekend, as I kept being diverted to other little nagging things in life. Maybe this time? Stay tuned for the next exciting adventure of.....
I'm likin' what I'm seein'! This past week has bordered on bedlam around here. Irons in the fire. Starting yesterday, I now need to pick up my grandson after school four days a week. (He got in some trouble. ) This will last for forty consecutive school days. I have been working on making dietary changes and cooking more. Supplies were needed. Research regarding crappie fishing resulted in a new fishing pole and reel. Tomorrow is chore day. Right now I have begun making slope sheets. Indications are that this process will be long and arduous. (Maybe not.) All have and be fun and safe.
After getting a swift kick in the butt I hope to get this set up and organized. Workbench construction update.
On the home front I am not sure what the weekend holds. I know I have to what has become the quarterly heavy cleaning of the kitchen, dining room, living room, and foyer floors. They are the wood vinyl type so it is not difficult but there is a lot of floor to clean and shine. If the weather is nice I could do some yard clean up. On the layout I want to do ground cover around the O. L. King & Sons Coal Yard. There are decals to put on the Golden Valley Canning Company and prep work to add the building to the layout. I also have a bunch of freight cars to tune up that are piled up on the layout which I would like to clear off. The next kit I am going to work on his an old Model Power Snack Stand.
Arrggg! Moose always makes plans but then said plans get put on a siding to sit... But, if a Moose could dream a fantastical dream... 1. Finish paint on six reefers for local breweries and maybe get decals started on one or two of them 2. Finish building a coal dump shed for the recently built mega 360 ton coal tower 3. Build up the area underneath the railroad trestle bents to support the bents 4. Start building the sand tower... Hooves crossed some of this gets done this weekend!
I shall be very interested to see how you do this. I know Microscale has/had PV panel decals but I'm not at all sure how they look or if there are better options.
I'm simply printing images of actual solar panels on overhead transparency film, then, I'll mount them reverse side up for the glass effect. They will be angled at about 22 degrees like the ones on Becton Dickenson. I'll paint the backs to make them look like solid panels. The downside is I won't have that bluish tone. I was thinking of using Tamiya transparent blue then silver on the backs. I may do that if I don't like the outcome with the plain old laser printed panels with a silver backing. I'll see how they look installed on an N scale building at least 2 feet from the viewer. This is a laser printing experiment that I just tried and it seems promising.
I’ve been working on repairs and sprucing up all the modules. I should have that complete today. Then I need to finish the NS plate covers for the new modules then they are ready for Wendover, UT at the end of the month. From there it’s time to start getting some HO stuff done. Am gluing down my Kato Unitrack to fix the most important segments of the layout in place. I'm using just enough to hold things firm, but not so much as to require major demolition and track replacement if I ever need to move track for troubleshooting or revision.
First task is to build a Lego table for my youngest daughter’s birthday. It’s simple-just glueing base plates to a used coffee table. After, I’m going to finish up the concrete sections and some ground cover along my switching layout. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There won't be any layout work this weekend. Lori and I are heading to Hilton Head to check on the progress of the new winter home. The slab has cured and the framing starts next week. We haven't seen our homesite yet, we signed a contract last May based on a specific style of home (2 BR duplex) and lot type (we asked for a lot that backs up to either trees or water). The lot is also based on the style of home, since the townhomes are specifically paired. They gave us a couple of locations based on a plot plan and we took a guess. Now we get to see if we chose well. It won't matter all that much in the end anyhow, the way the home is laid out privacy shouldn't be an issue. There may be a small layout project destined for the new home's garage, but that's probably not happening over the first winter. We'll be keeping our main home, and the layout lives on for now, as a late spring and fall activity going forward. There will be a major housecleaning in the near future and a lot of the stuff I've accumulated will be going on the block. TB'ers will get first shot at the clearance sale when it happens.
