A very common practice in the days before the 3m peel and stick type emblems. Either bolted or riveted.

Here it is today. I'm glad it still stands, but did they have to paint it pink? (Bottom photo not mine.)

    *shudder*

Must have been Homer Simpson in his pink shirt era.

It looks like something out of a children's fairy tale story.

While on my early morning walks while staying in Edinburgh, Scotland in the summer of 2003, I came upon a plaque commemorating a long gone railroad. Durn flash went off on my camera causing a reflection.

However, I found another photo on line that I could read.
    IRR.jpg

Near by was an old cast iron bridge from the old line, now in the middle of the walking trail that maintains the route.

Hey, that’s my cycle route into town!
The top section goes into tunnel at a super steep grade.

Burlington baggage wagon at the Monmouth, IL station, 1976. Amtrak's California Zephyr ended service to Monmouth in the early 1980s and the depot was demolished.

The Q lives on! Great catch!

I may have posted this before, but I forget... Blah, blah, blah. Standard disclaimer here... :p

CP train 199 winds through the snowy Des Lacs River valley near Foxholm, ND on the CP Portal Sub. A number of signs are seen in this composition: distance from the next siding, classic Soo whistle posts, milepost 484 and for good measure, the pole line. 29 Dec 20.
