Good morning from cloudy, cold and snowy Northeast Ohio! Here are this weeks accomplishments: IMWX 1937 AAR Boxcar kit, substituted a Des Plaines Hobbies Viking Roof for the kit supplied roof along with Yarmouth Models sill steps in place of the plastic ones. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Tuscan and Black Paints and lettered with K4 Decals. Car was in general service on the NKP as I am trying to expand my fleet of NKP rolling stock. Next, Kadee PS 2003CF Covered Hopper painted with Scalecoat II MofW Gray paint and lettered with decals from the Ann Arbor Historical Society. Car was originally purchased for use at the Dundee MI cement plant as there production sky rocketed with the building of the Interstate Highway System, after that boom subsided the cars were assigned to Yuma, MI hauling casting sand for the Ford Brook Park engine plant and the AA had to supply 20 cars of sand a day. A pair of Rapido FA-2's in Ann Arbor paint with a freight headed up by sand cars from the Yuma, MI sand pit runing on the Stronsville Club layout. Thanks for looking, Rick Jesionowski
Did the SP own a BL-2 Wolf? Just trying to get educated. Not that it matters at all -- it's a beautiful model!
Nope - it's a total foob. I just thought it would be interesting to see what one may look like in black widow. (My version any way) Thanks, for the kind words Wolf
I redecorated a stock Microtrains heavyweight baggage car. It is not exact for the MKT 184 series B&E cars but close enough for me. I did add wire hand rails. The locomotive is a kit bash of bits. The mechanism is from a Micro Ace Japanese National Railways 4-6-2. The boiler shell is an Atlas/Rivarossi USRA Heavy Pacific. The tender shell is from an Atlas/Rivarossi USRA Light Pacific with Con Cor Commonwealth style trucks. The oil bunker on the tender is scratch built.
Another elusive mythical beast: CN's one and only SD45 - though only in some parallel universe that has a portal in my train room. Runs like a charm despite not having the same subatomic spin ratio of this universe.
Rick, were those running between Yuma, MI and the Ford plant in Brookpark, Ohio? Sent from my SM-A716U using Tapatalk
New arrival! The two-year wait for new train/hobby shows has ended! It felt so good to get back to an event like that, to see people, to talk with them about trains, and buy stuff. Atlas GP7 with the Kato drive train, custom painted and detailed. That's the fourth GP7 in my fleet. I also bought a couple of Roundhouse hoppers in C&S red scheme, some bric-a-brac and the 2022 edition of the Canadian Trackside Guide. Dang, it feels good!
After total tear downs, clean up, and lubed these tunnel motors run after being idle for about 9 years.
Yes the sand from Yuma went to the Ford Engine Plant in Brookpark, OH. Besides the Ann Arbor cars the DT&I purchased 100 2604CF 100 Ton cars to supplement the existing Ann Arbor cars. After Conrail the DT&I cars went back to the DT&I and the Ann Arbor leased cars from the P&LE and Chicago Freight Car to replace the DT&I cars. Also due to the Conrail power shortages many times the Ann Arbor GP35’s would run through all the way to Brook Park. Rick Jesionowski
