I guess I'm like you in some ways: I have worked too D#%@ for my money. I won't give it away and I'm always looking for a BARGAIN. My ex-wife kept asking: "What are you gonna do with all that salvage lumber, CHEAPSKATE?" Well She's gone, I've got a nice Train/Layout room, in the basement and a PAID FOR house. She used to call me THRIFTY---I just say CHEAP!!! You can buy all the latest, wham-bang-coolest toys you want, but if they don't run, who cares?

I don't think I have ever thrown anything away related to model trains except for maybe the occasional Kadee/MT spring which fell on the floor and I smashed by stepping on it while looking for it.

I threw away my Bachman N scale EZ track. I kept most of the rest of the trainset it came with though. The railcars got new MT trucks/couplers, and the locomotive was promoted to a tourist attraction, parked on an unused piece of Unitrack (the EZ track didn't even look good enough for that.) The Great Northern loco was very reliable in that role. Replaced the power pack with an MRC unit.

Yet it was Bachman that introduced me to N scale model railroading. The frustration it wielded led me to discover Kato Unitrack, Kato/Atlas locomotives, MT trucks/couplers, and MT/Atlas/other railcars with MT/compatible couplers.

So I guess you could say that Bachman trainset turned out to be excellent!

Boy, you younger people have it easy. Back in the beginning, we had to change motor brushes every other day and rewind the armatures once a week!

And, if we had a hump yard on our layout, we had to go uphill both ways!
