From 08/04/1975 at Crystal Lake, IL, the 1582 is positioning cars from the American Freedom Train which has just arrived.
Great shot, Dan. 1582 was "only" 23 at that point. Scrapped in 1982 at the age of 30. In its lifetime, it was within a year of my age. In fact, only a couple of months older. Doug
Interesting history with both you and the 1582. I'd just graduated high school in June. The AFT went right through our hometown, but for some reason we weren't trackside. My mother drove us up to Crystal Lake that afternoon to see the goings on. Being fool kid, I was in awe and didn't take any pictures other than the geep! I do remember that people were everywhere and decent shots were near impossible. We went back the next day to tour the train and shots were taken with my mother's Kodak Instamatic. One is below. My hard-working father couldn't take time off to see it.
My link to create new posts has disappeared so I am going to paste the message I wanted to create here. Do any of you model the New York Central in steam days? If so I have many photos which I am willing to share and which may be of some assistance to you.
Most are just roster shots, many from the collection of Harold K. Vollrath. Example: Well, I get "uploads not available"

I seem to have lost my ability to do anything except respond to existing posts, so am considering just giving up. Once was a moderator.
When trying to upload a photo, is there a rectangular [Upload a File] button in the lower right when you are posting or replying? Files must be less than 2GB and are often jpg format, though others are permitted.
At night, the smaller dark square, you can sometimes see the Dynamic Brake grids "glowing purple" when they're hot!
