Some people asked me in Altenbeken: What is your next project ? I have plenty of ideas and one of them is a small streetcar layout. This is of course inspired by a model I have. I detailed this streetcar and checked how it is doing on Rokuhan Shorty tracks and curves: I did some basic planning and collected necessary tracks. My concept is a simple dogbone style layout with a small addition - two turnouts and one extra straight (almost) track. Not everything is going to be visible. I plan to make visible red square: The green square will be "diorama" - elevated 4 track railway line to display some trains. This is based on actual location in Gdansk (Lech Walesa) - Poland : https://www.rynek-kolejowy.pl/wiado...ku-wrzeszczu-dostanie-drugie-zycie-96603.html https://www.trojmiasto.pl/wiadomosci/Nastawnia-kolejowa-w-Gdansku-w-rejestrze-zabytkow-n87482.html I also plan to have the streetcar line going under the bridge: https://www.trojmiasto.pl/wiadomosc...ke-ze-zrywana-trakcja-na-Hallera-n135753.html The whole layout is going to be 100cmx40cm and visible part will be 66 cm (Marklin flex). Finally there will be a possibility for 2 streetcar to be used without complicated wiring - just using a Rokuhan turnouts as a source to power/unpower part of the track.
Interesting, I love to follow your progress, please keep posting! For the bridge tower, you might be able to use / kitbash this kibri kit? Matt
With regards to traction, I have only one thing to say. STOP IT! (Too much temptation.) I mean it. It is much too cool.
This would be a little bit better looking but geometry of the layout would be more complicated and the size bigger. I want to keep in rather narrow. Anyway - thank you for this comment.
Baseboard was prepared: Checking out tracks: Background perspective - line of Kibri houses assamblied 15 years ago:
I wish I could work that fast, and with that quality. I have been working on my TTZ modules for almost 3 years now and still only have 2 modules with track.
Pawel, You are an inspiration. Dioramas, modules, and layouts one after the other, and each one very good! Rob, I hear ya, I haven't finished anything I've started. Scott
Tracks were attached to the layout box and I started to construct elevated 4 track railway "diorama" base. The areas on the left and right hand side of this construction will be hidden parts of the layout. There will be a bridge: Railway track are 660mm Marklin flex tracks. I plan to use KIBRI signal box of bridge/gate style. This model was assamblied approximately 15 years ago Street car - this is the starting point of the concept of this layout The railway part needs some extra height - there is not eough space for the street car with pantograph:
Summer is time for other hobbies... Finally I made small progress with the signal box. The balcony was added as well as protective net (there will be a catenary below). I also added some markings and the railway man. You can compare it with "raw" Kibri model:
Thank you. My approach is simple - look at the prototypes. This is not exact model but details are inspired by the real world.
