Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend and got a lot accomplished. Let's get started.

Saturday: As predicted, we went to the antique tractor show which was bigger than we had imagined. The show is a total of four days and literally fills up an entire small town. Needless to say, I got my steps in and saw a lot of neat equipment. Once we got home, we were pretty tired.

Sunday: Was busy as the wife had planned to be back the day before by 1:00pm. My father-in-law came over to help me with a project that ended up being a dead end, so we just rode in with Ang with her shopping. I had lunch a fellow railroad buddy and we got caught up on all things railfanning as well as the hobby but other than that, no real model railroading this weekend, which is somewhat expected after Galesburg.

So how about you? What did you accomplish? Let us know. We'll assemble once again on Friday the 15th to start the whole process over again. Until then, have a great week, stay healthy, be safe and as always...

    High Greens!

    Good morning.

As planned, worked on the 2 tower cabins. For AC cabin, I spent most, if not all of Saturday building the exterior stair structure. My first "foray" into soldering railings from scratch. Also worked on finishing the chimney as well as getting the stone trim on the 1 story addition part. I have it positioned on the layout but it needs a base and gutters. The scenery base needs to be tweaked a little to get it to set level.

Also got out the MD cabin kit and sorted out the parts. I have to order the paint to make sure I match (or come close) to the C&O standard colors of gray for the different components. Never did get time to work on layout scenery.

    Have a great week all!!

    Howdy All,

Spent the hot afternoons inside and out of the heat. We hit about 105(F) here yesterday and no fun to be outside.

I managed to make some progress and have several early 1900s models ready for decaling. Some need couplers or a brake wheel, but getting close.

Westerfield inside-post wood gondola resin kit (will be a FRISCO model).

A 36-ft (Iron Mountain) and 34-ft ( Mobile, Jackson & KC) cars from Bitter Creek:

And an Accurail mod (~1910 FRISCO billboard herald). I did get the cut levers installed on this one, and clear-coated, but did not take an updated photo.

    Next weekend: Decal-o-rama!

    Had a great weekend.
Zilch on the modeling. Too tired from yardwork.

Saturdays quinceañera party was great. My neighbors have a large family and they really know how to have a get together.
The young lady looked like a Disney princess. My wife and I only stayed a few hours. Party was still going when I let the dogs out in the morning. Those days are over for me.

Although I did not do any modeling this weekend I feel good because of all that my wife and I accomplished outside.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend.

Saturday I did very little. Shoulder and neck were stiff and achy. Took my wife to the dentist and then we went to the pharmacy and PetSmart. On Sunday with the help of my daughter I got a couple of loads of laundry done and the pond filter cleaned. Basically she did the heavy lifting. I am somewhat worried about my shoulder. I went to pull a gallon of milk out of the frig and nearly dropped it due to weakness and pain. I am currently trying to a schedule an appointment with the orthopedic doctor. I am also waiting for the other guy's insurance to call me. We had some texting back and forth on Friday.

I did not get any modeling done. Just too uncomfortable most of the time. I did revise a couple of entries in my inventory file to reflect kits that are now built.

Much of the weekend was taken up by outdoor projects and yard work. I did the install layout section that I have been working on into the layout and got a start on adding shrubs to the hillsides. Now I am working on connecting the tracks that pass through the tunnels to the lift bridge behind the hills.

Worked and reworked tunnel portal/retaining wall locations, with four more to go. This scenery business is hard, having to think in 3D and imagine topography is a challenge.

Since our last update was last Monday, it's probably fair to include my activities at the Sebring Model Railroad Club last Tuesday. I've been trying to get our new port/harbor facility construction efforts back on track since our late treasurer Kenny Fox was heading that effort prior to losing his life to Covid-19. Toward that end, with much of the benchwork completed, it was decided that the water part of the new port was much larger than we needed for the planned docks and other facilities, as well as too expensive for all the "water" we'd have to pour. So, more "land" was requested, and less "water." That meant raising a three or four foot section on one end and with that in mind, Tuesday I loaded a bunch of power tools in my truck, went to the club, and got to work. Several risers were disassembled and rebuilt an inch or two higher, and the top surface boards were marked cut, and reinstalled at the new higher level. Now, hopefully, the track gang can get to work laying track and setting switches. It doesn't look like several hours of work, but here is photo of the new raised section. The "open" section is where the water level will be reinstalled (an inch and change lower) once the track and switches near the wall are completed.

Friday found me back at the club doing our bookkeeping in advance of our monthly club business meeting on Sunday. I also caught up on a buch of chores around the house from vacuuming, to cleaning carpet spots, to emptying the cat box, cleaning strawberries, etc.

Saturday My wife and I headed out early while we still had some morning coolness, went to a pick-your-own berry place and brought home nearly ten pounds of blueberries for freezing (and eating). I also took another layer of paint and rust off of the milk can I'm working on using a 3M paint stripper wheel (wire wheels was the first pass), and I'm hoping that one more pass should get me pretty much down to bare metal. I was also able to work on my gondola camera carrier. Tightening up the screw under the trucks eliminated much of the wobble/sway that was troubling me, and I also bent a piece of sheet metal (used previously only for weight) to reach over the end and provide a more permanent shelf upon which to set the cameras. Here is the completed work with and empty "shelf" as well as with both the standard GoPro and the GoPro Session.
Gondola camera carrier1.jpg Gondola camera carrier2.jpg Gondola camera carrier3.jpg

In the evening I was back at church for our church's annual free neighborhood carnival (with free food, games, face painting, and prizes for everyone).
Carnival July 2022a.jpg Carnival July 2022b.jpg Carnival July 2022c.jpg

Sunday was church, then our monthly club business meeting where I was able to test run the camera carrier. It works well but I found two issues. First, the coupler height needs more adjustment, and second, there is one place under the new port construction, where a single riser is larger than the rest and is just a shade too low for the standard GoPro (and also for the steel fasteners I was using for weight). This hints that a) obviously I need shorter weights, and b) that low clearance riser may eventually cause issues with hi-cubes or other tall rolling stock, so that will be something to look at when I go to the club on Tuesday.

Track I had noted awaiting on Friday arrived Saturday! So, yesterday I accomplished the slight alteration to my T-Trak Twin Bridges module. But after that I became distracted. It is hydroplane racing season (Unlimiteds and Inboards.) This is my motorsport, a life long love and I have participated in it as well. So I was "sidetracked" (a railroad term, in a boat racing post???) to sorting and filing some of the race and boat button and tacks I have collected. Fun! Memories! Happy!

Friday: I did the touch up paint where I modified the details on an Accurail 50’ boxcar along with painting the under frame and the sides of a 50’ PS1 boxcar kit.

Saturday: I removed the masking on the car I touched up and installed the new doors in place of the kit supplied doors. Also completed a McKeen 50’ outside stake ACF boxcar kit replacing many of the plastic detail parts with metal ones. Also went to the club for the first time in weeks and had a good time.

Sunday: Did not do much but did mask the sides of the 50’ PS1 so I can paint the second color. Also went through a lot of unbuilt kits that I will never build and get them ready for sale.

Impressive posts! A four-day tractor show! Wow! (y) Frisco looks like it is making a comeback. Also, heat battles. Previously, I made a fender forming tool. I am hoping that this will help speed things along somewhat. So far, the rear fender mounts are installed. I keep plodding. All be fun and cool as possible. :D

Saturday I worked on repainting some Pullman coaches for Metra in the bike car and new paint scheme. I finished 3, two are awaiting installation of passengers and lighting. The best 2 examples I took in to work for my diorama.

Sunday I worked on some Trinity 5660 covered hoppers.

Over the course of this next week I’m going to start to upgrade some old Concor Budd coaches for Metra-I’ve tinted the windows and added a layer of silver paint to bring it back to life. I still have to install lighting and passengers.

Lots of "smalls".......started out laying track in my switching area. Got a half dozen turnouts and maybe 25 feet of sidings laid. Now I'm running out of Atlas C55 turnouts again. So I turned my attention to putting new trucks on a couple of boxcars, assembling my new MT Wing carrier set and then did DCC installs on a Kato RS2, an Atlas Trainmaster, and a FVM 4-4-2. Finished up by programing them, plus a pair of BLI SD70Aces (the MRL essential Workers and veterans models).

Added a #8 turnout feeding the yard tail track into the main line. This should give us more space when another train is on the branchline. Points are thrown with a Cobalt triggered with a momentary push button or DCC Address.

I also recently acquired a couple IM SD40-2's that ran intermittently. Turns out the wheel wipers have a coat of blackening material. I removed it, cleaned out the dimples and top contacts, added some electrical protectant, cleaned and lubed the driveline, and they seem to run nicely now.

Only achieved one of my hobby activities this weekend. I finally assembled all the pictures in the right order and gave a last review to the text so I could send off the first pass on my article for the NSE magazine. We will see what happens next. Otherwise, it was domestic chores. We did have breakfast with my son on Saturday. Good to catch up with him.

    Stay safe,

My weekend started on Thursday. I took some vaca time and spent threst of the week with a good friend and a couple of people he knows and did some train stuff until Sunday. Cali State Railroad Museum on Friday, Niles Canyon Railway on Saturday and the Western Railway Museum on Sunday. After the CSRM, we went to our friend, Gary's in Sac to run a couple of my HO loco on his layout and after WRM, we went to see Jack Burgess' Yosemite Valley layout. I really don't want to go back to work tommorrow!

My Athearn CNFR GP15 and Atlas MET Gen Set on Gary's layout:

Jack's layout is a work of art. My friend John is working with the CSRM in Sac to preserve Jack's YV after he passes.
