Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a great weekend and got finished what you set out to do on Friday. Let's get started. Saturday: I was up at the crack of dawn and prepared for the arrival of my father-in-law. At 9:00am the blue F-150 was here and after a briefing and breakfast, off to the big lumbar store. I went a little above budget and picked up enough 2X4s to complete this and another project, some paneling and screws and adhesive. Sticker shock wasn't as bad as a I thought. Once home, I tore down the brackets and plywood and salvaged everything. By 11:00am I was left with this... Ugly, isn't it? I put the floor in when I moved in years ago but those walls. At least we never have to decorate for Halloween. We first started with framing out two walls with the 2X4's then carefully cutting the panels to size. By 7:00pm we were finished with stage one. Big difference. I still need to install the ceiling panel but that and molding will come later. Now with a finished wall, I will be able to build a 6-foot by 6-foot L shaped layout over the fall and winter. We cooked some meat on the grill and enjoyed some corn on the cob and called it a day. Sunday: Was a restful day. We went to Angela's grandmas and took her and Angela's dad to lunch for helping the day before. The pizza place we went to is a train themed restaurant with a G scale train that runs throughout the establishment. Pretty neat. We stopped to pick up more construction adhesive, then back to Grandmas to watch the NASCAR race. Then off to drop of Ang's station wagon for some maintenance and drive the Mustang home. It was nice to drive the Mustang again. Once home, I had to clean the office from the day before as well as the garage so as to get the Mustang in safe and sound. We finished the day with Star Trek and popcorn. Overall, a very productive weekend. So how about you? What did you get done this weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 29th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay healthy, be safe and as always... High Greens!
I had plans to finish the subroadbed on the ‘high line’ on the upper level plus a few other items. However storms Thursday night caused a power outage which was restored Friday. Then we had another storm Saturday that caused a 27 hour power outage through most of Sunday. Despite losing two mornings to work on the layout, I was able to install some ceiling panels and glue down the first section of track on the upper level. I also installed three custom Bowser covered hopper kits. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Both Saturday and Sunday watered the gardens early in the morning and did some gardening before the sun got too high. I also did some laundry and some house cleaning. I ran some trains but had issues with my BLI Centipede stalling and derailing on some of the switches. I had done a heavy cleaning of the track about two weeks ago so I am not sure what is the issue. I test a couple of other DCC locos with no issues. The Centipede is a Paragon 3 model. I also notice a few places where the track is temporarily tacked down is coming loose and bouncing. I need to think about a solution that is not permanent as some areas will be modified in the future.
I got quite a bit of learning done this weekend -- I was learning how to make landforms and also how to do custom liveries for the digital railroad. Most of the cars have livery on them, but I want to put a custom number on each one so that I can use the system with JMRI so thats my project. TIM
Got the last turnout installed over the joint between the two recently installed sections of the layout. Then installed tempered hard board fascia in this area. Needed to get this done before installing the control rod for the new turnout.
got my leds installed on one turn out switch. now printing a building . cleaned some dust off the layout....
Good mornin to Y'all, I made good progress on my beet train project. Saturday: 15 cars painted (with 3 SP live stock cars) and 46 freight car trucks. Sunday: clear flatted the above freight car trucks with the underbodies for the live stock cars. Then - the fun stuff -- I painted 100 wheel sets for the above cars. Hope Y'all had a great weekend, Wolf
Greetings all. Weekend went mostly as I though. Spent most of the weekend working on the "hotel building" project. Took 3 DPM M.T. Arms kits and chopped them up to make a 10 story building. The building will sit high on a ridge over looking the rail facility down below. Took some time cutting, sanding edges, and getting the sprues out of the windows that DPM casts. Tricky little boogers to deal with so you don't deface the window detail. That took some time. Also, dug out the CRM Kit "American Brewery" that I purchased at the Great Scale Model Train show in 2007. I've pulled it out about 3 times in the last 15 years to move it along. I think, FINALLY, I am going to finish this sucker. Have a great week all!!!!
Got more done rearanging the train room. Maybe order some tracks after the SS gets to the bank. I got home from the hardware on my bike just in time on Sunday. The big storm hit with 50 mph wind and a funnel cloud a couple mile away. A bit of tree damage here. The EAA aircraft meet was just getting started. Luckily only one bi-plane got blown over, standing on the motor with the tail in a tree. Just a little fixin needed. The little air field, first in Wisconsin, is having a show as well. This is just a little strip on the side of a field just east of Winchester. There's a bigger modern one just south of it. So instead of trains I'll be watching airplanes the rest of the week and then a trip to the northwoods for family.
Just got back from today's Cardiac Rehab session. Friday I managed to decal one side of a tank car and an express reefer. Also masked the roof on the cab of a U25B along with adding the coupler lift bars on the ends and the fuel tank fuel inlets. Saturday, I attended the first DT&I Modelers Meet since 2017 renewed some old acquaintances and met some new modelers. Had some interesting presentations on the prototype and modeling. Also set up the location for next year and will determine the date at a later time. Sunday, finished decaling the other side and ends of the tank car and the sides on the express reefer. Also started on my Christmas Gift Exchange car for our club's Christmas gift exchange. Rick Jesionowski
Just can't bring myself to click Like on this one sir. Sure hope you are able to get that addressed and feel better. I did some clean up in the train room, ran a train, and consumed a good bit of coffee. Other than that, nothing.
Yep. A "no like" on the neck issue. Hope it goes away soon. Projects galore! Had surprise chores helping my daughter Sunday. Along the way, I downloaded some reference images. Did a little diagraming of the Olds. Just a bit more to do. Set up the tabletop drafting board for further drawing of the Olds and a couple of structures I need to get done. Also checked out some library books to help with making the Olds. This project is growing by leaps and bounds and the car is only one-half inch long. All have a great week.
Spent the weekend working on the Colton Station module. Assembled and painted a 12x12 single module before attaching the track. Gave the station a quick spray of textured paint to simulate stucco and then placed on the module to check spacing. Also worked on the station platform. Up next is tile roofs, landscaping, ballasting tracks and trying my hand at painting N scale figures.
I finished my two FVM GEVOs, decorated as GBW and FRVR heritage units for my modern day WC. I took them to work without taking photos, so I’m going to post those later in my WC Waukesha Sub thread. I also finished 16x Greenville hoppers-more details in my WC Waukesha Sub thread, but photos below. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
BoxcabE50: I'm liking your post in hopes it will make you feel better! Sooooooo.......Friday I wrote I was starting with cleaning up the workspace and would decide what to do as I went. Turns out what I did was clean up the workspace. At least I got started. After sorting through some papers and general stuff that had collected, I decided it was time to complete a few overdue household repair projects to clear the area. Started with a broken umbrella. It needed a new tip on one rib. Then started tinkering with these holiday relics. Who among us doesn't need an occasional halo tune-up? Had to buy some supplies for those. Went to a 3-year-old's birthday party. Poof! The weekend was over. Looks like several of you did some fine work. Stay safe and cool,
Made some progress on these four additions for a ~1908 operating session fleet (still need some weathering): A few other small projects saw progress, but will leave it with these. Take Care All, -Bob T.
Life has been hectic, but I did make some time to rough in some pavement and sidewalks in the New Milford area on the N Scale Housatonic Layout. This is only gray craft foam being fitted in place to represent streets, sidewalks and parking lots. Shown are roads in downtown New Milford and the H.H. Taylor & Son Hardware and Lumber retailer at the end of Railroad Street. No paint or weathering has been applied yet and nothing has ben glued down, except the base layer of craft foam. There is still a lot to do, but this 5 foot long area was in need of more than just brown painted foam board.
After thinking about building the Walthers Cornerstone Hardwood Furniture Company this past weekend, I finally started working on it just now. I glued in about a dozen windows, then decided to continue tomorrow. I don't know why, but I just can't stick with anything too long lately. Hmm... sounds like Kiz's bipolar disorder acting up...
I'm late to make my report since today is Wednesday and not Monday, but I didn't accomplish as much train stuff as I'd hoped and not as much other stuff either. I did more work, on both Friday and Saturday, on my project to restore the antique milk can that sits on our porch. I've removed most all of the rust that's going to come off the main body and have started using Naval Jelly to remove rust on the lid in places that my wire brushes and other rotary tools can't get to. I went to my parents' house and brought back a pile of scrap that my brothers have set aside and had hoped to get it sorted and off to the scrap yard but was running later than I had hoped and the scrap yard closed at noon so that got pushed to this coming weekend... maybe. After loading the scrap pile I resumed the ongoing project to match N-scale rolling stock to their respective crystal cases but a warning from the National Weather Service and some evil looking clouds on radar sent me home sooner than expected as I was worried about the dogs being home alone during a bad storm. Of course, it turned out to be a non-event and we didn't even get enough rain to water the garden. Later I did make a run to Kohl's to return a part to Amazon for the cell phone that I decided to replace rather than repair. Sunday was church and then some time spent at the Sebring Model Railroad Club, but other than securing some of the overflowing money in the candy and cola jar, I didn't do much other than yak with the gang.
