Well I just finshed the add on yard and now need to cut in the mainline turnout. This will involve ripping up the 5' of Marklin flex to replace with MTL flex and the Peter Wright turnout. If it goes as it has in the past, I'll be able to to at least all the mainlines on the Wye, except for maybe the upper "neck" part. Goal is to get that engine yard in by next weekend for a test run. LOTS of turnouts means LOTS of Tortoises to install. Kim, your good at electrical. Feel like wiring a bunch of toggle switches or at least helping prep a lot of wire for the for the Wabbit controls? Home all next weekend :)

Rob, post pix of the rework. Going to be nice to have that run smooth for steamers. Considering all the severe misaligments that CZM had on there modules, everything ran well, including the 200 MPH ICE and 150MPH Marklin F7 passenger. The freights all ran hours long too considering the many 9" radius snakes and misaligments at the transistions. No way that steam would have run though. Fortunately, no one brought any except Loren's GS which a screw fell out of the rack so he never ran it.

Perhaps one off the alligators at least should be in the water ready for an attack?
Although I didn't know there would be alligator at such a landscape region? hehehe
I guess it's the same as there is believed that there is Polar bears down here in the Oslo region in Norway. ;)

well, just for the record ... i find it disturbing. it's such a neat scene and the trestle and trains are SO well done. and then there's this carnage about to occur. what does it say to the people who will see it?

no offense is intended by my opinion ... i see the "fun" in it, but it does seem strong. my 2 cents.

They were bought by a boy as pets when they were little. When they ate his sister's cat, his parents wisely brought them to the local swimming hole to let them go. The rest is history.

I second David's opinion. I'm as irreverent as the next guy, but this does approach being too morbid even for my bizarre senses. Perhaps it's the presence of the child? Yeah, that's it for me.........just make it a couple of slacker teenagers, and then I'm okay with it.

Also no offense intended here, just offering my two penny's worth.

No offense taken. I have to admit I am a big kid at heart, and I play with my toys just like any other kid would. Ever watch a little kid with a plastic dinosaur and a hot wheels car? :D I've never been much for the politicaly correct lifestyle, and I did buy the Gold Metal Models etched brass roadkill in N Scale.

The beauty of Z Scale is these vignettes are so small that people never see them at the shows. Later they go home and look at their camera shots and see things they never seen before... That's the fun of it. ;)

These are the locos I've been lightly weathering.
I used a wash on the trucks and some chalk on the locos.
The BLMA radio antenna is assembled and awaiting paint.

Has any one made D&RGW decals for the GP35?

Nice looking engines, Keith. I think nothing improves the look of a engine then some light weathering. How about some more shots of your layout.

David F. repainted a DRG&W using n scale decals. David can give you more details later. Also, Tony repainted a DRG&W GP 35. So there is a lot of material on it. Some of it is in Z Central.

Microscale HO Rio Grande Cab (F) unit locos (4 stripe) is the right width stripe for use on Z scale road/switcher black/orange paint scheme. to be correct the stripes should be cut out individually so they can be applied just a little closer together to fit 5 stripes to the low nose and 7 stripes to the rear) as per prototype (check photos for the correct placement).

the N scale loco set #28 (hood units) by microscale has the Rio Grande herald (flying script) and numbers for application for a switcher -- these are just about perfect for Z scale GPs (or SD45) with the small lettering. if you want the large Rio Grande logo use the set from N scale TOFC (trailers set) by Microscale #456. these are the best fit to be found. there are four different trailer names on the decal set, but enough of the Rio Grande to decorate two locomotives. (btw -- the only GP35 to get the large Rio Grande herald was #3048). the GP35 linked by shamoo737 above was my first effort and did NOT use the #456 decal. to see that more correct lettering look at jurg Ruedi's rosetown webside and see his Rio Grande GP35 there.

i've looked at every decal set and size available at Caboose Hobbies (champ, microscale, CDS dry transfers, etc.) to find the right size Rio Grande decals for Z application. these i've listed above are the best i have distilled. the only thing better would be to have someone specially make a set (of which i would gladly by many!).

one more thing, Polly S makes a Rio Grande yellow paint that is pretty close to prototype (especially for F units). Badger makes a Rio Grande Orange that is also right for the color orange used by Microscale for its hood unit decals -- but you have to be a magician to get it to spray without spattering. hand painting the orange with a good sable brush will yield good enough results for the black stripe decals to be applied over it. it's your choice. fyi.

    hope this helps.
    dave f.

P.S. nice work on the locos and the radio tower. that's a good scene and weathering. df

    Thanks Guys.

Those photos are some very nice D&RGW Locomotives.
Thanks for the info on the D&RGW decals and paint colors.
I will checkout the decals and see if my paints are still ok.
I would like to try painting the Z GP35 sometime soon.

I painted this N GP40. The color matching was a real pain.

I have not started my layout yet, I just put some
track inside some HO track on a small plain diorama.

Is this what the actual antenna's look like? Are they mainly positioned in yards? or else where? Just curious!
