I dig all the added details you've done, Robert. But the detail I like is the interior walls that you can see at the leftside open door, gives it the feeling of a real building!

Randy brown kits are great! I’m sure you already know this but test fit walls before you glue to remove any flashing. Once you use superglue you got only seconds and it binds tight and fast.
I look forward to seeing it finished.

Today I have a Aztec track cleaning car on my Workbench. Why you ask? Well its been over a year since i last saw one pop up on the auction sites and the price was nearly double what they sold for new. So since I can't find one to buy, I'll just have to make one myself.

After pulling the shell off and taking a bunch of measurements, I ordered up some supplies and went to work.

    20220904_210405.jpg
With the help of some Diamond tipped tools I was able to cut the Cratex Rod down to size and drill out the center, Then I made a arbor out of a piece of brass and turn it down to size. Yes I used a couple pennies for clamping washers on the arbor.

    20220822_073336.jpg
Next was the Chassis. For that I hacked a 0.625 x 0.625 x 8" block of 6160 aluminum into 3 equal pieces, Put one in the vice, drilled a few holes and made a pile of chips as I milled it down to size.

    20220828_202439.jpg

    20220828_073518.jpg
Several hours later it was finally looking like the orignal

    20220904_155639.jpg
When the brass rod for the center of the Roller finally arrived I turned it down to size.

    20220904_213937.jpg
Not wanting to rely on epoxy to hold the magnet in place on the bottom of the car as Aztec did I drilled a #52 hole 0.25mm from the chamfered edge on the bottom and pressed a pair of magnets in the hole. With a combined pulling force of just under 0.20 lb. they should pickup any foreign metal objects that wind on or near the track. But not be so strong as to interfere with turnouts or any electronic items near by.

Now that test build # 1 is done and working just fine. #2, #3, and #4 are in the works.

I want at least 6 to keep in our "show box"
I'm building a pair of dedicated track cleaning trains to use at shows one DC (inner Loop) and one DCC (outer Loop). I've Wired and draw-bared (2 sets) of 2 loco's together for better track pickup on dirty track and I want 2 dedicated track cleaning cars to pull behind each set. as well as 2 spares You never know when your going to have a coupler give out or one derail and hit the floor. I'm hoping to have them sit on a siding so we can just pull them out and run a few laps to clean the track as needed through out the day then pull back into their siding until they are needed again.

I just bought Japanese 100 weight silk thread, in a color that looked to represent oily steel cable. It's not the brand that was recommended, but this is the good stuff too:

It's about .010" wide, and .010" thick too. I know it's not scale, but it looks fine enough to use.

Rob, great work on the fence and electrical ! You remember that transformers on poles and rack with all the fine wiring at International Rail Fair, up next to us on that dark stage? That's what this is looking like !

Now, you need to add the End/Corner braces and gates. Bonus prize for security Turnstile ;)
The company that made a lot of what we have had in N was working (excitedly) on stuff but it now seems to be a side project. They were very concerned about accuracy. Really concerned. I had to pull him back from my radio tower with the microscope, because thats not how we look at it !! It' the "3 foot" rule.

Looking very good! My guess that it is a Motel 6! Every town needs at least one motel or hotel on their layout!

You guessed it Clyde! I went for the general flavor of the Pacific Northwest style structures where winters are colder, so the room doors are inside:

Taking Modelers License, I moved the office to this side, and added a carport. I am going to put the Cupola style sign on it:

And I added the Boise Style end so I can add a pool. The little room is the pumphouse, like Boise has:

The motel is coming out fantastic. I really like the color of the building. Are you going to have a lobby that can have furniture? Let me know when you need the room air conditioners, which I have. Can you let me know the footprint of the building.

Actually I'm going to do one of my modules as Friday Night Cruising the Blvd. Remember when you were a teenager, and everyone would cruise main street? For us it was cruising Fremont Blvd. Our crew hung out at Round Table Pizza, we were sworn enemies to the A&W Rootbeer Centerville crowd, and had a huge gang fight when I was 18. We would cruise till midnight, then head out to "Little Fremont" out by the $#!t Factory on the bay, for illegal drag races.
