Here we are at the first Friday in September already. Hope you all enjoy the Labor Day Weekend. I'll kick off the Weekend Proto fun with this L&NW caboose I caught this past Monday 8/29/22 in Gibsland LA. Kind of cool to find a caboose these days where windows have been upgraded instead of plated over.

From 11/27/1981 at Cumberland, MD, SD-40 WM 7570 carries on with pride. Actually it's former WM 7470, renumbered in Chessie's roster as the 7570 and years later to appear as CSX 8421. I always wanted a B&O Colored Position Light Signal for our back yard, but I never chased one down and the time for such pursuits has now passed. I think they are so cool and would have been easy to set up.

Okay, go straight for about half a mile, turn right at the dead tree, go past the grumpy old guy on the porch with a shot gun, then look for an old brown dog. It should be a little farther on your left beyond the broken gate. Ask for Billy Bob. April 17, 2012.

In a continuation from last weekend, eventually 3867 and the string of loaded cars were collected by 3526, resplendent in new orange and cream, and RailAmerica veteran 3865. It is questionable how much longer these former RailAmerica units will be with us, one having been sold already. The four of them replaced HESR's original power, a group of GP7's. Like the Geep7's, three of these first GP38-2's were once painted in the heritage scheme originally worn by Pere Marquette's E7's. They were first numbered 201-204 before being renumbered into the 3800's. Apparently, the company wanted a corporate "flagship", resulting in 204 being painted in a red RailAmerica livery.

I like the way this is photographed. Other than the few tufts of weeds growing here and there, the only subjects actually wearing bright and vibrant colors are the locomotives. The rest are in shades of gray or highly desaturated colors. A very interesting composition.

    Great photo.(y)

A foggy, drizzly morning, forty some years back. A couple of SW1500 units idle near the yard tower, at SP's Brooklyn Yard in Portland, Oregon:

Since Labor Day weekend is said to be the end of Summer I thought this photo would be appropriate. This was one of my favorite train watching spots! ;);):whistle::whistle:

I suspect that between trains there was a lot of attention to some of the beach "wildlife"...:sneaky:

    Sunday already in Japan-

A meet along the Hachiko line in west Tokyo prefecture at Kita-Hachioji station, viewed from the lead car of the southbound train.

Plus, a diesel/electric hybrid (JR Frieght HD300-34) waiting on the next job at Hachioji station.

Those center cab hybrids are cool. I am surprised they put the word Hybrid in English on the side though.

Cool shot Ken. Lots to see there. Even looks like a pair of aircraft fuselage cars back there.

Those are really cool trainsets Alan. One of these days I may try making one in N scale. Probably some 3d prints of it available out there somewhere.

A little late (but since it IS Labor Day weekend)........former BNSF SD70MAC 9556 splattered for PRLX, and a paint job a little worse for wear, in dead storage on the Arkansas & Missouri, August 28, 2022. There are ten other Big MAC ( 8 in BNSF Executive livery, and 2 former CSX) sitting on this track south of the A&M's former Frisco line.

Is A&M just storing these for Progress? Or will they be putting any into service? Is any of their ALCo fleet still hanging on?

Ken: Apparently they are being stored for Progress Rail since their lease is up. Some time back A&M held several ex-Santa Fe SD75Ms (decked out in full "Super Fleet" colors. Not sure of their disposition, although I did hear mention of them being stored for scrapping by the lessor.

A&M has four SD70MACe locomotives used primarily for the Ft. Smith- Monett (MO) interchange with BNSF. Two are in a modified A&M paint scheme; one is in a temporary reddish paint job until a (hopefully) repaint into its original A&M colors; and the fourth is a former KCS unit still in "Southern Belle" colors. The Alcoa are still used in yard and switch job service, plus the excursion passenger train between Van Buren and Winslow. [IMG]
