Welcome back everyone. I hope you all had a good, extended weekend and got to enjoy some down time and layout time. Let's see how we did.

Saturday: Was the big Sweetcorn festival in my wife's hometown. We got going a bit late but got a great spot next to her dad and his car. There were over 100 cars there this year and a lot to look at. I think my favorite was the 1959 Mercury in turquois and white. We got our fill of fair food and sweetcorn then headed back home after the car show ended. We finished the night at a wedding reception for some close friends.

Sunday: Blame it on the weather, which was dark and rainy. We didn't manage to get up until 7:00am. I took Angela out for breakfast and antique hunting at one of the local antique malls. We got home by 1:00pm and we just relaxed with the dogs. Not sure why we were so tired, but I got nothing done.

Labor Day: The plan was to have Angela's dad and some friends over for a cookout, but my buddy's wife had a rough night with some health issues and so it would just be the three of us. I wanted to finish the valance project, so I set out getting the lights installed as well as trimming and installing the hardboard.

These small LED lights were just the ticket and they fit nicely.

And now the fascia. I'm using 1/8-inch hardboard cut 6-inches deep. I borrowed an idea I learned from the YouTube channel Boomerdiorama, and cut all my edges at a 45-degree angle which certainly makes for a better seam.

And finally with all the LED lights on. I still need to route my wiring and fill in screw holes in the fascia in prep for painting. I may hold off on painting for a cooler day so I can open the windows. I can now start building modules but that will have to wait until October. In between this progress we had a cookout where I cooked hamburgers, bacon and corn on the cob on the grill and we enjoyed an end of summer feast. The sun came out during our cookout, and it was nice to relax before getting back to work.

So how about you? What did you do over the three-day weekend? Let us know. We return to a regular schedule on Friday the 9th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, be safe and stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

Good morning. Hope everyone had a great and peaceful Labor Day weekend. The weekend here went about as predicted. I spent time in the train room, took care of some domestic things, watch a lot of college football. My NC State team scared me Saturday but eeked out a 1 point win. W's a W I guess. We'll take it.

Jim, the valance looks good. Neat work there. Takes a good eye to cut Masonite hardboard at angles. I have a hard enough time w/ butt-joining the stuff. Good job!

In the trainroom I did get the extension done on the layout. The pictures below show the "before, during, after" shots. Also straightened up the layout. I had tons of scrap thiss and thatta all over the place. I trashed some of the small pieces of wood and whatever that know I'll never use. Then organized the larger pieces of stuff. One of the shots below was taken from one the extreme corners of the layout I rarely visit.

Have a great week all. Short week to Friday now. I like it.

Had a pretty productive three day weekend. I got the weeping cherry tree trimmed. We did some other gardening and got some weeding done. The wife returned a couple of items she ordered to the store. W made the grocery store and PetSmart runs. I picked up my car from the auto body shop. Everything seems okay but I want to give it a week or so before I decide. Today will test if there are any leaks.

I organized the reefers and put them in bins accordingly. I also checked over the Red Caboose and Athearn RTR Tropicana reefers I recently purchased. I purchase the Red Caboose reefers out a discount box at the LHS. They were rung up as used but on most of them I can see no signs of wear. I got them because the price was half of what I am seeing them go for on Ebay. That said I am not impressed with Red Caboose. I have not been impressed with them for awhile. I seven reefers. None of them were problem free. On all seven I had to adjust the coupler pins so they would pass the Kadee couple gauge. Two of them have loose weights. Four of them have parts that need to be glued back on. None of the parts are broken they just came off. The three Athearn RTR reefers I just recieved have no issues other than the McHenry couplers and I need to add a screw to the coupler box clips. I got to successfully test some new locos that were just delivered.

Ordered a new T-Trak module, and a couple of other associated assembly items. Received an HOn30 car it I found on 'that' auction site. Acquired a hand full of hydroplane race buttons from this season. Started a minor track tweak on a previous T-Trak module. Should be finished in a few minutes. Wow. I actually did something? Scary thought!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I managed to accomplish most of my goals this weekend.

I finished the ceiling over part of the layout that had been skipped until I tied some wires in a junction box. The ceiling was then painted in that area, then I installed the upper level lighting valence brackets.

I also ran several trains from the lower staging yard up to the classification yard. Cars were classified and then eventually returned to staging. This verified some adjustments I had made to some track issues that thankfully solved the issues. I spent so much time running trains, I didn’t get around to building any switches.

    What a pity, lol.

We had hot, dry weather here. It hit 102 on Monday which was the first time we have been over 100 since I don't remember when. I do better in dry heat but my wife really has problems with it so she stayed indoors with the A/C on all weekend. I did my chores in the morning hours and did spend a good amount of time out in the train room and making good use of the A/C there.

Did get the PSX circuit breakers installed for the upper helix and got the first loop of the outer track connected.

I laid the long spur track for a scrap yard and painted the code 55 part of the track put in last week connecting the east end of Carlin yard to the upper helix. Also finished the car card holders for all of the industry spurs and for the arrival / departure track in Carlin yard and made more car cards and waybills.

    TBWMA06Sep22a.jpg

And painted the fascia along the edge of the staging yard. The control panels and throttle holders were already gray so now it looks more uniform.

Good morning from cloudy and mild Northeast Ohio.

Starting off bowling on Friday was abysmal as a team we could not throw a string of strikes and we would go frames where nobody had a strike.

Saturday went to the club and since all the cars were moved to facilitate the new A/C we cleaned the track and then vacuumed the layout. After that we repopulated the yard and storage tracks. That evening we went to dinner with some friends and after we got home I did some decalling.

Sunday worked on building an IMRC R70-20 reefer and continued on the decalling, along with doing the laundry.

Monday, finished the decalling and applied the dull coat to the cars, while I had the airbrush out I painted a pseudo covered hopper. Finished the R70-20 reefer and it is ready for painting. Did some work on a feed mill for the club layout.

Tompm: I have built a number of the Red Caboose reefer kits, the problem is not the car but the assembly. Also while you were adding the screws on the Athearn reefers why didn’t you replace the McJunkies with Kadee couplers. At the club we have found the McJunkies tend to separate due to the slippery plastic on long trains.

Well, I got a lot done this weekend, but it wasnt all I had planned on doing -- I have a linux computer that use to run JMRI on and it also servers as a database server for some databases (I do better in some ways with mysql than I do with access, mostly b/c the databases are accessable across the network) So I spent most of saturday rebuilding the Linux computer (twice) and figuring out how to get remote access into it -- linux can be finiky at times so it just took some fiddling. Once I got that done, I needed to install the container software(docker) and get the various packages up and working -- took most of sunday and monday -- along with other various domestic stuff (and naps). Im finishing up on the database stuff today, and hopefully getting some iRacing in as well as working on the track leading to Alamosa

    Have a great week everyone!

JW: lights look cool! Fascia looks good too! Looks like we all got a lot done. Good finishing all 'round. (y) Beets! ;) At this point, all the '39 Olds needs are headlights. ;) Tough job but somebody had to do it. Looks like the rear right fender is sprung but the boss said, "Run it"! If I had not "piddled" so much, there would be a picture. Should have one next post. Have a great short week! :D

Rats I forgot to mention that I will replace the plastic couplers. I always replace the McHenry, EZ-Mate, or whatever brand of plastic couplers. The only ones I am leaving for now are the Accumate that come with the Atlas locos and cars.

The Red Caboose reefers were all ready to run. The parts that came off are a platform on the B side of a reefer and various stirrups on the other cars. It just appears whatever was used to attach them did not hold. I have had similar trouble with a couple of other Red Caboose RTR models in particular a couple of tank cars that need extensive work to getting them back on the layout.

Day late posting but better than never.

I was able to assemble one module set of four. The second set I need to cut some more wood. I found a mis cut on a side rail. But they are coming along. We hope to have this set that is awaiting crossbeams be ready for the NMRA convention in Dallas next year. [IMG]
